The refresh Settlers of Kalguur event is going to roll out with some exciting changes and rewards in Path of Exile 3.25 in November, to brighten up your waiting for PoE 2 and the 3.26 league of PoE 1! This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about this event, including mechanics, strategies, and tips for maximizing your experience.
The Settlers of Kalguur Event in Path of Exile 3.25 is a special in-game event that offers players a fresh take on the Settlers of Kalguur league. The event will reintroduce mechanics from the Necropolis modifier set, focusing on positive modifiers that enhance loot and pack size. However, it will not include the more challenging Haunted modifiers or Grave Crafting mechanics. Players will have the opportunity to manipulate monster modifiers in each area, similar to the Necropolis league, but these modifiers will only provide rewards.
Event Start & End Date:
Start Date: The event begins on November 7, 2024, at 1 PM PST (November 8 for players in Australia).
End Date: It will run until early 2025.
Event on Game Modes:
Initially, Grinding Gear Games (GGG) announced that the event would only have two versions: Softcore Trade and Hardcore Solo Self-Found. However, due to player feedback, they’ve expanded the options. You can now choose between four versions:
Softcore Trade
Hardcore Trade
Softcore Solo Self-Found
Hardcore Solo Self-Found
There is no support for Ruthless in this event, and it seems unlikely that it will be added.
Key Changes in the Event:
This event will reintroduce several mechanics from the Necropolis modifier set. Specifically, the modifiers that increase loot and pack size will be returning, whereas the Haunted modifiers, which made encounters more difficult, will not. Additionally, Grave Crafting is not included in this event. This means that the majority of the modifiers in this event will be positive or mostly positive, though some of them might be situationally annoying—such as the Harbinger spawns, which are generally beneficial but may not always be desirable.
Rewards
Reaching level 50 in any version of the event will grant players a Settlers Mystery Box. If players already own all items from this box, they will receive two Polaris Mystery Boxes instead.
The event is designed to be engaging and rewarding, providing a fresh economy and a chance to practice new builds and strategies without the long-term commitment of a full league.
The Settlers of Kalguur event is just around the corner, and the strategies from King's March (including my previous guide) are now outdated. Early league guides often miss important nuances, and by the time you figure them out, it’s too late to update the content. The good news is that with the experience from large player-run events like BPL and Gauntlet, we now have a clearer understanding of what works best. Therefore, I’m here to give you an updated guide that applies to the Settlers of Kalguur event.
Should You Engage with Kingsmarch?
The big question: Should you bother with King's March at all in this event? The answer depends on your playstyle:
Solo Self-Found (SSF): Absolutely. Many of the best rare items come from crafting, and King's March provides access to deterministic crafting methods like recombination.
Trade League: You can skip it if you’re willing to pay for crafted items, but keep in mind that recombination can be a huge money-saver and provide valuable currency like Mirror Shards.
Additionally, King's March offers lucrative opportunities like 50-million gold shipments, which have a decent chance of yielding multiple Mirror Shards.
Now following to set Kingsmarch for fast progression in Settlers of Kalguur Event:
1. Ynda's Stand - A Special Case
If you're targeting Ynda's Stand, an important unique item, you’ll need to modify the strategies outlined in this guide. Ynda's Stand seems to come from completing a Port Quota to a Kalguurian Port, and upgrading your shipping too far can make this item harder to obtain. Specifically, upgrading shipping past level 7 increases the resource costs for shipments, reducing your chances of farming Ynda’s Stand efficiently.
So, if you’re chasing this item, do not upgrade your Port beyond level 7, and keep sending shipments until you acquire the Stand. This will likely result in fewer Ynda's Stands circulating in the event, making it an expensive item in trade leagues.
2. The Verisium Ore Bottleneck & Solving It
One of the biggest bottlenecks in Kingsmarch is Verisium Ore. Verisium is needed for critical upgrades, and it's easy to accidentally smelt it all if you're not careful. Here’s how to avoid this:
Never assign too many workers to smelting until you’ve completed all the ore upgrades.
Turn off all smelters, even those working on other ores, if you find yourself low on Verisium. This ensures no one accidentally smelts what little Verisium you have left.
If you get stuck in the Verisium Insta-Smelt scenario, don’t panic. Turn off all smelters, go map for more Verisium, and once you’ve gathered enough (around 890), complete your town upgrades. After that, you can resume smelting freely.
3. The Counterintuitive Top Priority: Mining 9 and 11
While medals may not seem important at the endgame, Mining 9 and Mining 11 are critical upgrades. These unlock Bismuth and Verisium deposits, which are essential for both gold and resource generation. Mining 11 is especially important because it provides free gold from each metal encounter, scaling up to 12,000 gold per red map.
Rushing these upgrades will significantly accelerate your progression, as gold and Thaumaturgic Dust are long-term bottlenecks.
4. Thaumaturgic Dust: The Day 2 Bottleneck
By Day 2, most players will find themselves bottlenecked by Thaumaturgic Dust. You need dust for recombination, mappers, and accelerating your dust income. The key to overcoming this bottleneck is disenchanting rare and unique items. High-level disenchanting allows you to break down uniques for significant amounts of dust, which is crucial for long-term progression.
Unique items are much more valuable for dust than rares. Once you unlock the ability to disenchant uniques, your dust problems will quickly diminish.
Influenced items (especially Elder Slayer and Shaper items) tend to give more dust due to their guaranteed high-tier mods.
5. Farming Elderslayer Items for Disenchanting
A great way to farm influenced items is by using the Domination Scarab of Apparitions. While not particularly rare in red maps, combining this with Radiant Storms scarabs can supercharge your loot. Even without Radiant Storms, the Domination Scarab strategy provides a steady influx of Elder Slayer items, which can be disenchanted for dust.
6. Don't Forget: Upgrade Your NPCs
Upgrading your Kingsmarch NPCs is crucial to smooth progression. Aim to get all your NPCs to rank 8 or higher as quickly as possible. Focus on upgrading your farmers, especially those producing Blue Zanth and Orgut, as these will be your farming bottlenecks.
7. Campaign Progression
Campaign: What to Do
During the campaign, Kingsmarch should take a backseat to your main progression. However, there are a few key points where you should stop and make some upgrades:
Act 5: Establish basic mining, farming, and smelting. Push to Mining 2 and get your first smelter online.
Act 7: Return to Kingsmarch and upgrade your NPCs and town infrastructure. Replace any low-rank workers.
Act 9: Final campaign visit. Focus on pushing your town upgrades as far as possible.
After the Campaign
Once you've completed the campaign, visit Kingsmarch after every 15-30 Atlas bonus points. Upgrade your Town Center, then upgrade each structure as much as possible. Expect to hit Verisium Ore bottlenecks frequently, and be ready to turn off all smelting until you’ve gathered enough ore to progress.
8. Levelling Recombination
The Recombination system is extremely powerful, but the key upgrades you need are Recombination 1 and Recombination 2. These allow you to recombinate armor, which is the strongest use of the system. Steps 5 and 6 of recombination are luxury upgrades and not worth prioritizing.
When to Get Recombination Level 4, 5, and 6
Recombination 4 allows you to reduce the cost of recombination, but it's not essential early on.
Recombination 5 and 6 are low priority and do not significantly improve your crafting potential.
9. Balancing Dust Use
You'll need to balance Thaumaturgic Dust use between crafting and upgrading your dust income. If your character is underpowered, prioritize recombinating for character power. Once you're stable, invest in upgrading your dust production for long-term gains.
10. What About Mappers?
Ignore mappers until you have over 1 million gold. Once you reach this threshold, you can start using mappers to farm extra resources, including Simulacrum splinters. Mappers excel at farming low-tier Exarch and Eater embers, Maven chisels, and mid-tier currencies like Divine Orbs.
What Mappers Are Good and Bad At
Mappers are great at generating loot but terrible at sustaining maps. However, map sustain is not a major issue in this league due to the abundance of map drops.
Using Mappers to Generate Simulacrums
Once you're set up, you can send mappers into delirious maps using the Delirium Scarab of Delusions. Mappers can efficiently farm Simulacrum splinters, and over time, this will generate a steady supply of Simulacrums.
