7/19/2024 9:52:10 AM

With the recent update to Diablo 4 season 5, we got massive massive class balance changes and also to our most beloved class the Barbarian. Read our D4 Season 5 Barbarian tier list, we have ranked the best Barb builds for S5.

Diablo 4 Season 5 Best Barbarian Build - D4 Season 5 Barb Builds Ranking

Barbarian has been the best class ever since Diablo 4 season 2. In Season 5, there have been a lot of changes for the barbarian in particular to the key passives, some of the temper recipes, and also to some of the main stat scaling. What hits the class to its core is mostly the key passives. Things like gushing wounds were definitely way too strong but knowing some of the most underused passives such as Walking Arsenal getting a nerf or Unbridled Rage which makes your skills cost double the fury but only deal 45% damage. Unconstrained only ends up giving you 8% DPS. Next, we’re going to talk about D4 Season 5 best Barbarian builds.

S+ Tier

  • Flay Bleed Barbarian

Flay Bleed Barb will be the Diablo 4 Season 5 best Barbarian build. The build focuses on using the Flay skill to apply massive amounts of bleed damage over time to enemies. It is specialized for high-level bossing and torment difficulty pits/rifts. The hemorrhage cap of 1.45x will limit the damage scaling from additional sources of bleed. This could modestly lower the overall damage ceiling of the build. However, the near doubling of damage from Wartorn Rupture talent could potentially offset the hemorrhage cap. If the talent damage increase is high enough, it could maintain Flay Bleed Barb's damage potential. There could be a new Rakanoth Boots Rupture infinite proc build.

S Tier

  • Direct Bash Barbarian

Direct Bash Barbarian is a really strong build in Diablo 4 Season 5. Because Overpower received changes in a previous season that strengthened the Direct Bash playstyle. A new synergy with Helm of the Starless Night could provide a significant damage boost if it properly enables the Overpower changes. Moreover, it has a weird new clobbering effect but sounds no change. Overall, the Direct Bash build delivers high damage, good AOE clear, strong crowd control, and a simple playstyle that's readily effective across all endgame challenges.

  • Bleed Whirlwind Barbarian

Bleed Whirlwind Barbarian feels about the same. WW scaling with attack speed is a huge boost, as attack speed increases both WW tick rate and mobility. This directly amplifies WW's bleed application and damage. More frequent Steel Grasp pulls mean easier bleed spreading and vulnerability uptime. This multiplies damage throughout the whole pack. Hemorrhage cap being lifted may allow builds to push bleed damage higher through synergies like crits. WW could really leverage this with high AS.

A Tier

  • Bleed Bash Barbarian

While maximum bleed values were reduced significantly, the Bleed Bash Barbarian still deals good overall damage by stacking sources of % bleed damage like Hemorrhage. Bash hitting many targets means bleeds will spread via Gushing Wounds, multiplying bleed DPS across packs. Skills like Rupture and Steel Grasp synergize well by exploding accumulated bleeds for burst potential. The 1.25x bleed damage cap from Hemorrhage isn't drastically weaker if sources like vulnerability and crit damage are optimized. Fixing unintended double dipping of % damage may have balanced bleeds overall rather than outright nerfing them. Bash was not explicitly nerfed, so it retains strong single target and AoE damage potential.

  • Thorns Barbarian

While Rumble's damage bonus was capped at 1.3x, if optimized it may still provide significant reflected damage as a primary scaling mechanic. Needleflare nerf hurts but Thorns scales off many sources, so lost damage from one skill can be made up in talent allocation/gear. Life sustain may need adjusting without double life pots, but Thorns scales defense which allows room for alternate sustain options. Thorns naturally synergize well with packs/AoE focus of many endgame content types due to damage reflection.  Still at the A-tier in this D4 Season 5 Barb builds ranking.

  • Double Swing / Leap DD Barbarian

Double Swing is a very high damage core ability and was not mentioned as being directly changed. This retains the build's strong damage identity. Dust Devils synergize extremely well with Double Swing's playstyle and offer great crowd clearing. Builds utilizing strong mechanics tend to remain viable after patches. Berserking uptime is a defining trait and new Diablo 4 Season 5 items like the amulet could further boost this. The build scales well with optimization. Mobility from Leap and Fury generation allows very active gameplay. This playstyle tends to perform well in varying endgame content. Strong synergy between skills, talents, and planned seasonal items implies the design is cohesive rather than relying on any single overtuned element. Therefore, it’s still one of the Diablo 4 Season 5 best Barbarian builds.

B Tier

  • Deathblow Barbarian

Direct nerfs like cooldown increases and damage reductions to key mechanics like Earthstriker's Aspect. These hits weren't fully quantified. Death Blow is the core damage dealer, so any direct nerfs to it or supporting mechanics weaken the foundation of its damage identity. Reliance on guaranteed crits from items like Red Furor for optimal DPS. Nerfs may disrupt consistency. The Melee playstyle lacks strong defenses without optimization, risking lower survivability in harder content.

  • Rend Barbarian

Rend relies on bleed damage and the multiple bleed/damage changes in Season 5 could significantly impact its effectiveness. It focuses on sustained DoT damage through Rend, which may struggle more after changes reducing DoT/bleed values compared to burst-oriented builds. Mobility is limited as it's melee-focused without innate mobility skills, which could hurt it in denser endgame content. More defense reliance than offense-oriented builds means it may have issues compensating for potential damage nerfs through optimization alone.

  • Upheaval Barbarian

Reliance on Critical Strikes and Overpower effects. Any nerfs to these mechanics could significantly impact its damage rotations. Melee-focused without innate mobility or defenses, so may struggle more in denser endgame content after monster affix changes.

F Tier

  • Pure Whirlwind Barbarian

  • Call of the Ancients Barbarian

Just don’t play any of these F-Tiers on this Diablo 4 S5 Barb build tier list.
