Blizzard Entertainment has announced some exciting new content coming to Diablo 4 with the Season of Blood 1.2.3 patch update. One of the major endgame additions is the Abattoir of Zir, a challenging new dungeon event that will push players' builds to their limits. Here is everything we know about how the Abattoir of Zir event will work, along with release details, exclusive rewards, challenging tiers, activities, and more.

How the Abattoir of Zir Dungeon (& Tiers) Will Work in Diablo 4 S2?

The Abattoir of Zir is a series of special dungeons that can only be accessed after completing all stages of the Season Journey for Season 2. There will be 25 tiers of increasingly difficult dungeons to conquer. Each tier will be unlocked by crafting a special Bloodforged Sigil item using a recipe earned from the Season Journey.

To start a run, players will use the sigil to open a portal to the dungeon. They'll then need to battle through hordes of enemies, clearing progression bars to summon the end-of-dungeon boss. All of this must be done within a time limit - if players take too long, they'll have to restart the entire dungeon from the beginning.

Higher tiers will pose a much steeper challenge than regular Nightmare Dungeons or Greater Rifts from previous Diablo games. Developers have stated that not all builds will be viable for the most difficult tiers. Strong gear, skills, and strategy will be required to overcome the enemies within. Players can retry failed tiers but each failure means abandoning progress.

D4 The Abattoir of Zir Release Date & Requirements

The first season of the Abattoir of Zir will release on December 5th, 2023 with the launch of Diablo 4 patch 1.2.3. However, there are some prerequisites to access it:

• Players must first complete Season 2 of Diablo 4, which is currently underway.

• The full Season Journey for Season 2 must be completed, including all quests and objectives.

• This will reward the recipe to start crafting Bloodforged Sigils, unlocking the first tier.

• The Abattoir of Zir isn't accessible until December 5th at the earliest, and requires dedicating time to the current season before it can be played.

D4 Abattoir of Zir Rewards (Loots & Drops)

For those capable of pushing through the Abattoir of Zir's most difficult challenges, some powerful rewards await:

• Huge boosts to Paragon Glyph experience for each completed tier. This significantly speeds up maximizing the Paragon Board.

• The unique Tears of Blood glyph. This scales up to level 200 and provides massive character damage and rare node boosts based on unlocked cores in its radius.

• Bragging rights for being among the best Diablo 4 players! Developer comments imply very few builds will be able to handle the highest tiers.

D4 Abattoir of Zir Activities & Progression

Within each Abattoir of Zir dungeon run, players will battle through randomized enemies and terrain. Completing obstacle “progress bars” will cause the final boss to spawn. Victorious players move to the next, increasingly tougher tier.

Failed runs mean starting over from the beginning of that dungeon. But each completion provides rewards and tier upgrades allowing forretries. Leaderboards will track how far each player and build can advance. High ranks may gain exclusive cosmetics.

Groups of cooperative players can also take on the Abattoir of Zir together, combining their builds against the formidable foes within. This may make higher tiers more accessible for some players. Competition and cooperation are both encouraged with this new endgame activity.

With the Abattoir of Zir, Blizzard aims to provide Diablo 4’s most dedicated players and groups an endless challenge to test their limits each season. Although it requires significant time investment to access, this new dungeon could keep diehard Diablo fans engaged for many seasons to come.
