You can obtain them by completing the Trial of the Ancestors, a new endgame activity that involves fighting waves of enemies and bosses. There are 87 tattoos added in PoE 3.22 and dived into 11 catalogs. But some of them can greatly improve the skills of your builds, especially certain builds, while some tattoos seem to have little effect. With this guide, we want to go over the top 30 most powerful and economical options, as well as talk about the best use of each passive skill tattoo.

1 - Honoured Tattoo of the Storm
Replaces a +30 to Intelligence Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
+1% to maximum Lightning Resistance
+1 to Maximum Power Charges
While this tattoo certainly isn't useless, maximum lightning resistance is not nearly as valuable as cooled or fire, you don't have an Aegis Aurora equivalent, and you don't have things like the chieftain ascendancy. There's just less energy there, so we are going to say this is a little bit worse, still not too bad if you want to get your resistance up and after all, you could always do some sort of you know take a 30 Dex and 30 in node, side by side you happen to need the dex for your gear and you're taking the in just to grab an Honoured Tattoo of the Storm. That said there's a second part to it and that is power charges. Power charges are really strong and power charge stackers are very popular. Now Power Charges are putting this up there with frenzies, probably even above the Fire Res endurance charge one in terms of total value across all builds. However, most power charge stackers are at the top of a trait which is the only place where you can't access an intelligence notable. So if you're flexing left to the Templar area or right to the shadow area, you might want to come down a little farther and end up picking up a 30 intelligence node, that way you're able to activate this, but there is a significant opportunity cost like we think there is with almost all of the charge stackers.
2 - Tattoo of the Ramako Makanga
Replaces a Small Dexterity Passive Skill
Requires 7 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
Skills fire an additional Projectile
This is skills fire an additional projectile. If you're a bow build you're in love with this, and you're absolutely taking it because it's something like 15-20 multiplicative damage to get an additional projectile with no penalty, which means you don't have to use things like LMP or GMP. Obviously the exact value is 15-20 more depending on your bow and your other projectiles, you might have 3 or 5, or you might have a permanent dying Sun for 8. But regardless there's some value there and it could be quite high, so this is very good and we'd bet is one of the most expensive on this list.
3 - Honoured Tattoo of the Barbarian
Replaces a +30 to Dexterity Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
+1% to maximum Cold Resistance
+1 to Maximum Frenzy Charges
This is relatively easy to access on the left side of a tree and relatively difficult on the right side and plus when maximum frenzy charges are very powerful, it's probably worth going out of your way for. Especially because as a frenzy charge stacking build, you'll probably be going through a socket down near the Duelist anyway.
4 - Honoured Tattoo of the Mountain
Replaces a +30 to Strength Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
+1% to maximum Fire Resistance
+1 to Maximum Endurance Charges
The Honoured Tattoo of the Mountain is Fire Res and endurance charges on a strength node. The problem of this one is really where it is on the tree, a lot of it builds but wants to stack Fire Res are located bottom left Mirada area which is right where you can't get a strength notable. Though if you have to travel, say you're a Marauder that comes all the way up to the top because you're a righteous Fire build and you happen to loop down to pick up Elemental overload, you're in luck, all of a sudden a Righteous Fire build is perfectly able to get this which makes it very darn useful and plus when Maxine turns the charge on her RF Jugg.
5 - Honoured Tattoo of the Wise
Replaces a +30 to Intelligence Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
+1 to Level of all Intelligence Skill Gems
This is an intelligence gem, but because of your cross-positioning, it's sort of tricky. Now these days, there's a surprising number of builds that use intelligence gems on non-intelligence classes, a great example of this is the Poison Spark Pathfinder - Spark is an intelligence Gem and it's really easy to pick up. We think a lot of people are going to get used to Honoured Tattoo of the Wise
6 - Honoured Tattoo of the Berserker
Replaces a +30 to Dexterity Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
You gain Onslaught for 4 seconds on Hit
This one will be very pricey because it replaces a dexterity notable with Onslaught on hit, Onslaught is Attack cast and move speed which is very powerful. So this is going to be quite good, however again, it can be a little bit difficult to use for certain builds. Now luckily there are some Alternatives to a Pathfinder for example, you could use a silver flash which should have very close to 100 uptime, or you can go with a Synthesized Implicit which also gives Onslaught on hit. These aren't without their own individual opportunity costs but may be better than trekking halfway across the tree, whereas if you're on a Witch and you have easy access to a dexterity notable. If you can afford it, absolutely use it. This one for Onslaught is one of the most powerful because it not only increases your damage or defenses but also your clear speed.
7 - Honoured Tattoo of the Pa
Replaces a +30 to Strength Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
Melee Hits Fortify
This tattoo makes melee hits Fortify way more accessible. There were already nodes in the Marauder and Duelist area but as you went up towards saving a Templar or even a cross to the Shadow, classes that were surprisingly effective at melee builds, remember shield crush trickster or spectral Shield throw trickster, though spectral should throw. We guess isn't really melee just scales off of attacks shield crush is and would be able to use this. Meanwhile, you've got Templars using all sorts of weird lightning bunks that would work as well, and for in a senate, it's very easy to get this. Being able to fortify without giving up the fortification effect is insane, so we are going to rate this as one of the strongest here, probably up there with the Onslaught, definitely better than a lot of the generic things like Arcane Surge with spells.
8 - Honoured Tattoo of the Warlord
Replaces a +30 to Strength Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
+1 to Level of all Strength Skill Gems
Whereas strength is a little rarer than intelligence. We wouldn't say nobody does it, there are quite a few builds that do actually use strength gems, something that comes to mind here is Corrupting Fever with Reap. A tree you can actually pick up a strength node due to passing up and around and sneaking through this and that to try to get everything, mostly going through the Cyan life wheel.
9 - Honoured Tattoo of the Hunter
Replaces a +30 to Dexterity Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
+1 to Level of all Dexterity Skill Gems
This is a very good tattoo if you're using something like Toxic Rain or Explosive Arrow. Interestingly enough Explosive Arrow Elementalist is very well positioned to use this whereas a Toxic Rain Raider wouldn't be for reasons. There are also a fair few melee skills such as Cyclone which are dexterity gems and therefore might benefit from this assuming that you want to get better levels up - levels can be things like increased stages or radius on Cyclone or in the case of skills of flat damage, somewhat beneficial. Though not necessarily the most important thing, so it's likely not worth the expense unless you've truly Min maxed everything else.
10 - Tattoo of the Arohongui Makanga
Replaces a Small Dexterity Passive Skill
Requires maximum 1 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
+1% to maximum Cold Resistance
Plus 1% to maximum cold res is very powerful defensively, but it's a significant investment because remember you need to allocate 7 points and it's very likely that some of those will not be useful to your build. Though if you can min-max and get a good number of those, let's just say 4 of 7 are useful, then we'd say it's probably worth picking up.
11 - Tattoo of the Ngamahu Makanga
Replaces a Small Strength Passive Skill
Requires maximum 1 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
+1% to maximum Fire Resistance
If you're an RF jug, that's looking very good and they're both easy to use. So for the only one that's been quite difficult to use is the Tattoo of the Arohongui Makanga because a lot of the builds that want Max cold res are using things like Aegis Aurora and tend to be located towards the top and left of a tree rather from the bottom right - a lot of a bottom right builds if they go with a special unique Shield, we'll go with the ultimatum Shield instead and don't worry about resistance is nearly as much.
12 - Tattoo of the Tasalio Makanga
Replaces a Small Intelligence Passive Skill
Requires 7 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
8% increased Cooldown Recovery Rate
That's a bit of a weird one. A lot of builds that are cast on crit these days, aren't actually up at the top of a tree, they are going more towards the right side of a tree now, but we think you do go close enough to the Witch for power charge stacking, that it could still be useful. In some cases this is insane and in other cases this is useless. Whether you take this or not entirely depends on if it gets you over another cooldown breakpoint where you can increase your attack speed, if it does it's good and if it doesn't it's useless, and you shouldn't waste points on it.
13 - Tattoo of the Tawhoa Makanga
Replaces a Small Dexterity Passive Skill
Requires 7 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
Flasks applied to you have 8% increased Effect
This tattoo gives 8% increased effective flasks on you and not just magic utility flasks. So if you want to get that plus one projectile from Dying Sun for a total of 3, this is a way to do it. Again though you can't stack too many of them because there are only a couple of places in retrieve, it actually supports this with the notables around it - a mix of notables and other small passives and match them to get what you want. And that also makes it tricky because sometimes there's a notable that's really awkward in what would have otherwise been a really good spot.
14 - Tattoo of the Kitava Makanga
Replaces a Small Strength Passive Skill
Requires 7 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
80% increased Maximum total Life Recovery per second from Leech
Basically, this is Valpak without the downside of Valpect, it's not quite as good because it doesn't multiply your other increases. It's insanely powerful though and a lot of strength builds do leech especially now with instant leech, so this is a very good one and we can absolutely recommend picking it up.
15 - Honoured Tattoo of the Flood
Replaces a +30 to Intelligence Notable Passive Skill
Limited to: 1 Attribute Notable Tattoo
Gain Arcane Surge on Hit with Spells
This tattoo is going to be very Niche and unfortunately most of the builds that would walk this are only in the intelligence area of the tree making it very difficult to use. In the past Arcane Surge was a more spelled image which is very universal for spellcaster build and we could still maybe see this on something like a Slave Driver's Hands Trapper that does want cast speed. But for the most part, if the Arcane surge you're already getting you're using the support, we don't think this has much of a place.
16 - Honoured Tattoo of the Hatungo
Replaces a Small Attribute Passive Skill
1% increased Reservation Efficiency of Skills
General reservation efficiency is very rare in Path of Exile, this tattoo is not only for Mana reservations but also for life reservations. This tattoo is insanely strong if you can use these to fit in another Aura. So absolutely worth it, they're probably cost some PoE Currency.
17 - Tattoo of the Hinekora Makanga
Replaces a Small Intelligence Passive Skill
Requires 7 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
8% increased Effect of your Curses
If you're using 2 curses, this tattoo is good; if using 3 curses, this is great; luckily a lot of builds that use 3 curses are on a Cultist which isn't the perfect place to use this, so that's actually a really good one.
18 - Tattoo of the Rongokurai Makanga
Replaces a Small Strength Passive Skill
Requires maximum 1 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
8% chance to Defend with 200% of Armour
This tattoo is very bad, 8% chance to defend with 200% armor that's just so inconsistent that no one's really going to take it. We suppose with more chance to defend with percent armor effect, eventually, we'll get to 200% Armor all the time, 100% chance to defend, but until you can get that we don't receive a value here.
19 - Honoured Tattoo of the Oak
Replaces a Small Attribute Passive Skill
2% increased maximum Life
2% increase Max life, we've got a couple of these they seem fairly common, and it's great to have an extra life, especially in a build that isn't in the best spot tree wise. you have to go like this to get a life, so this saves you quite a bit of pathing or maybe it turns that path into useful life.
20 - Honoured Tattoo of the Tuatara
Replaces a Small Attribute Passive Skill
+4 to all Attributes
It turns 10 points of a single attribute into 12 total points across all 3, 10 dex becomes 4 dex, 4 strength, and 4 int. Those are really good because sometimes you're just slightly short on attribute requirements, so you can quickly shift your attributes around. This is not necessarily the most powerful but very useful.
21 - Tattoo of the Ngamahu Warmonger
Replaces a Small Strength Passive Skill
Enemies you Kill have a 2% chance to Explode, dealing a tenth of their maximum Life as Fire Damage
Explode is good to accelerate your clear and there are more ways to get it than ever - just convert 4 or 5 strength nodes and you'll start to notice for pops, convert a few more and you probably don't even need an Oriath's End because it doesn't take that much, even a 10-15% explode is very noticeable when clearing.
22 - Tattoo of the Ramako Sniper
Replaces a Small Dexterity Passive Skill
8% increased Projectile Speed
Projectile speed allows projectiles to travel further before they expire. This can be quite useful with certain skills/builds, such as Spark builds. More projectile speed makes it so that your sparks can damage a target again faster, some arenas like searing are really big, and duration, and projectile speed is the best way to get more damage. So yes, it is worth it, especially with Ashes. Also outside of boss fights the speed makes the skill more instant, helps with clear, and is overall a good quality of life.
23 - Tattoo of the Tawhoa Herbalist
Replaces a Small Dexterity Passive Skill
6% increased Flask Effect Duration
With flask configuration, that one's really good, 2 or 3 of these can immediately replace one of the modifiers on your belt. If you've got something like flask charges that opens up a belt slot to say craft for shock avoid using with storm shroud which is a very powerful option, especially on Pathfinder, a little bit less on another build. Though flask duration still isn't bad, just again use caution, it takes up the same spot as accuracy because you get accuracy Innovation from your dexterity.
24 - Tattoo of the Tukohama Warcaller
Replaces a Small Strength Passive Skill
10% increased Warcry Cooldown Recovery Rate
This one's probably mandatory. If you're playing a new corrupting crybild, at the very least work 5 cooldown is very good for those builds and you probably want quite a bit of it.
25 - Tattoo of the Arohongui Warrior
Replaces a Small Dexterity Passive Skill
Adds 3 to 5 Cold Damage
This tattoo is a tough one because it's very build-specific in some cases, it's very powerful to get 3 to 5 cool damage, in other cases it's not very good. If your build has a lot of increases to damage multipliers, this is powerful and there are others for fire damage, lightning damage, physical damage, and even chaos damage. But if you don't have very many multipliers, it's better to have a damage increase than base damage.
26 - Tattoo of the Ramako Scout
Replaces a Small Dexterity Passive Skill
+80 to Evasion Rating
This one's really good because its 10 dexterity becomes 2% suppressed, Mage Bane which is quite popular gives you 1% per 15 dexterity, so this is quite a lot more efficient but you lose the dexterity whereas with Mage Bane you just gain in addition. We actually think this means there's more reason than ever to drop Mage Bane and instead invest into quite a few of these, converting unneeded dexterity on builds that don't benefit from accuracy and already have enough evasion.
27 - Tattoo of the Kitava Blood Drinker
Replaces a Small Strength Passive Skill
0.5% of Attack Damage Leeched as Life
This is one of the strongest basic tattoos because it's a one-hit wonder, you place one strength node, and congratulations, you have attacked the image leeched as life. It works on Elemental and Chaos, and don't have to get leech anymore.
28 - Tattoo of the Tukohama Warrior
Replaces a Small Strength Passive Skill
Melee Hits which Stun have 5% chance to Fortify
If you're attacking a lot, you can also get melee hits that stun have a 5% chance to fortify, you will be studying most monsters and occasionally stunning bosses. This won't be the best for bossing but while mapping should be a good source of fortified just don't roll stunt immune Maps. We'd use it on things like bone chatter if it wants to stun anyway and want to already avoid Sun Immune to avoid adding another weakness or Achilles heel to your build. As a note, you cannot use this with Storm Shroud that says reduced effect, Storm Shot needs a chance to avoid.
29 - Honoured Tattoo of the Turtle
Replaces a Small Attribute Passive Skill
3% increased Global Defences
Global defenses are armor, evasion, energy shield, and ward, for any build that's stacking defenses. If you know how powerful skin of a loyal skin of allergies is, then you know how powerful this is. It's very good not necessarily perfect because it does require an attribute node to be given up and some damage etc. However, if you're a wardloop build and you want more wards, this is a great way to get it. And ward doesn't have any attributes associated with it, except a lot of ward builds use crystallized omniscience so you'd need a non-omni ward build to make that truly work.
30 - Tattoo of the Valako Makanga
Replaces a Small Intelligence Passive Skill
Requires maximum 1 adjacent Passive Skills Allocated
+1% to maximum Lightning Resistance
Plus 1% Max lightning rise again has the problem of being lightning grabs, but overall isn't terrible.
Here is our ranking of the Top 30 Best Tattoos in Path of Exile 3.22 League. For a quick summary of what is valuable passive skill tattoos in PoE 3.22: notable tattoos hold the highest value, followed by Macanga tattoos. Honor tattoos, in general, rank third, and specific tattoos we mentioned, like the Ramako Shaman for spell suppression or the Herbalist tattoo for Flask factoration, hold the fourth spot.
