Similar to other Diablo series, Diablo IV features five classes for players to choose from when building a character. Among these characters, what is the best starting/starter class to play in Diablo 4 at launch? Let’s dive into the D4 classes ranking with the strongest and weakest ones.

Diablo 4 Best Starting/Starter Class & Character - Strongest D4 Class for Beginners at Launch

Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses regarding different aspects, such as DPS, leveling, or difficulty, this class ranking is targeted to pick the best Diablo 4 class for beginners or starters when the game officially launches. Overall, Valumo thinks the easiest class to play and the strongest class for early on is the Sorcerer, then the Necromancer is also a good option.

1 - Sorcerer/Sorceress

If you want something that is tanky in the early game, the class that is better than others is Sorcerer or Sorceress, it also has great damage uptime and it's pretty mobile, not as mobile as the Rogue or Barbarian, but it's good enough if nothing changes from now until launch, the sorcerer is probably the best class in Diablo 4 to start with. It can tank better than Barbarian early on and do about as good damage as Rogue.

2 - Rogue

The second Diablo 4 best class for beginners is going to be the Rogue simply because it is the most mobile class in the game, unless you don't pick shadow step, it has very good damage with inner sight, which can be maintained for boss fights easily, this allows us to do arguably the best damage per second (DPS) in the game. A weakness of Rogue is that it can't really tank, it can sustain with the flurry upgrade or later in the game with the health on crit passive, but when it comes to damage reduction, it has nothing worth mentioning, the only reason you would pick this over the Sorcerer is if you want more mobility and maybe a little more damage.

3 - Necromancer

Moving on to the third-best starting class for Diablo IV, Necromancer is so well-rounded, because of its minions, you don't have to spec into tank if you choose to keep your minions, mobs and bosses will target them pretty often, and this allows you to basically never die, it isn't as tanky for hits on yourself, but because the minions can distract and cause monsters to aggro them often, you're really not in the harm’s way, most of the time it also has not bad damage, not the worst, but definitely not top three, there is no teleport ability, it is really the slowest class in the game, but because you can summon minions to offset most potential danger, it is currently ranked at the third one on the list.

4 - Barbarian

It’s tough to decide the worst starter character between the Druid and Barbarian, Barbarian is probably a little better. Unlike the Druid who is extremely slow, the Barbarian actually has mobility, it will also scale well into damage in the end game because of the Arsenal system, the problem with the Barbarian is the mechanics of melee, the only thing saving Barbarian early on is that it can get very high hits higher than any other class, but it just feels bad to play until you have all your D4 gear and aspects set up.

5 - Druid

Lastly, the Druid might be the worst class in D4, it's not fast, and it can't really tank even though it has tank systems built in, maybe this will change with the specialization mechanic of this class, but it did not feel good to play at all, the only mobility you really have is if you spec into Shred and get the Dash upgrade, other than that mobility is complete trash, the area of effect damage is a complete meme for this class's elemental builds, this class does nothing good. The minions are worse than Necromancer minions and they do less damage. We also expect some class balance to happen at Diablo IV’s official launch, what they need to do is have melee skills, give more movement speed, or mechanics that let them survive easier like a built-in crowd control debuff or something it is really annoying.
