Diablo 4 Best Ice Blades Sorceress Build for Open Beta: Skills, Stats, Gear, Playstyle, and more

Here is our version of the Ice Blades Cooldown Sorceress. This build is quite a lot different than other Sorc builds and the playstyle certainly won't be for everyone. The general consensus is that the build is likely to receive changes before launch so if you want to try it this weekend will probably be the last time you can.

Description The build plays around Ice Blades ability to reduce the cooldown of all your other active skills when striking a vulnerable enemy. We use Frost Nova to apply vulnerable which then allows our Ice Blade strikes to lower all our cooldowns for every time they hit. This basically causes a feedback loop whereby you can just constantly spam all of your skills and that creates more Ice Blades which then lowers the cooldown of all your skills and you repeat.

The build is always able to maintain 100% barrier uptime with 100% primary resource which allows certain +damage legendary aspects to always be applied - which makes you hit very hard as well.

 

Playstyle

You don't use a Core damage skill in this build which means your damage takes a second to ramp up but that also means you never have to worry about mana because you really don't use any. Primary damage comes from Spark + Unstable Currents, and the fact all our enemies are always vulnerable. You SUCK at clearing normal trash density so you should just avoid anything that isn't an elite pack or boss. All monsters will be frozen in place and vulnerable while you will have a nearly infinite barrier while also killing bosses/elites in a matter of seconds.

Gear

  • Weapons: Conceited Jade Greatstaff

  • Boots: Adventurer’s Boots of the Bounding Conduit

  • Pants: Adventurer’s Pants of the Protector

  • Gloves: Smiting Boneweave Gauntlets

  • Chest Armor: Adventurer’s Tunic of Singed Extremities

  • Helm: Exploiter’s Adventurer’s Helm

  • Amulet: Amulet of Fortune

  • Ring: Rapid Band/Edgemaster’s Band

Enchantment

Ice Blades Enchantment, "For every 20 seconds in cooldowns you spend, you spawn an Ice Blades on a random enemy".

Active Skills

Put Spark on Left-Click and Teleport on Right-Click. Hold down Spark and then Teleport around to elite packs and then Frost Nova + Ice Armor + Ice Blades. Use Unstable Currents on bosses or multiple elite packs.

  • Ice Blades (Enhanced + Summoned Ice Blades)

"Ice Blade's Cooldown is reduced by 1 second each time it hits a Vulnerable enemy"+"50% of Enhanced Ice Blade's Cooldown reduction is appplied to your other skills"

  • Frost Nova (Enhanced + Mystical)

"Killing enemies frozen by Frost Nova reduces its cooldown by 2 seconds, up to 6 seconds per cast"+"Frost Nova makes enemies vulnerable for 4 seconds, increased to 8 seconds against Bosses"

  • Ice Armor - Not Enhanced

"A barrier of ice forms around you for 6 seconds, absorbing 30% of your Base Life in damage. While Ice Armor is active 10% of your damage is added to it's barrier"

  • Teleport - Not Enhanced

You don't have to put a point this if you find +1 Tele on a piece of gear instead.

  • Spark (Enhanced + Glinting)

"Each time Spark hits its primary target, it has a 20% chance to hit up to 3 additional enemies, dealing X damage. If there are no enemies to hit, Spark instead deals 20% increased damage to its primary target.+"Spark gains 2% increased Critical Strike Chance per cast for 3 seconds, up to 10%"

  • Unstable Currents (Enhanced)

"Whenever you cast a Shock skill, a random core, conjuration or mastery shock skill is also cast" + "Increase Attack Speed by 25% while active"

Passives

This is where you get stupid strong. The lack of core skill means you save a ton of points and can really pump the passives. Glass Cannon + Conjuration Mastery give huge damage boosts and your immortality comes from Protection, which provides barrier for each cooldown used and you are constantly pressing your cooldowns on this build.

  • Potent Warding x 3

"After casting a non-basic skill you gain 6% resistance to all elements and 3% additional resistance to that skills element for 3 seconds"

  • Glass Cannon x 3

"You deal 18% more damage, but take 9% more damage"

  • Conjuration Mastery x 3

"You deal 3% increased damage for each conjuration active"

  • Align Elements x 1

"You gain 5% Damage Reduction agaisnt Elites for each second you have taken damage from one, up to 50%"

  • Protection x 3

"Using a Cooldown grants 30% of your Maximum Life as a Barrier for 5 seconds"

Aspects

The idea here is to look for anything to do with barriers, damage based on primary resource, and stack crowd control duration to extend Freeze. Basic Speed Attack Damage is also massive because your main damage is Spark and the faster you attack the more you crit. Below are the Aspects we had on hand but we’re sure there are many more that apply well to this build.

  • Increased Dmg with Barrier

  • Damaging Elite gives Barrier

  • Increased Crit + CC duration

  • Slow after immobilize

  • Crowd control duration + dmg against Unstoppables

  • Lucky hit with Barrier

  • Basic Attk Spd +25%

  • Attk Dmg based on Primary Resource
