The purpose of this build is rather straightforward. We're going to be using Ice Blades to proc Frost Nova to apply as much damage to frozen enemies as possible. Also, we'll be using the Blizzard enchantment effect to have a Blizzard that follows us and gives us a damage reduction bonus via the Snowguard's Aspect. We also expect this build to have a high barrier uptime and plan to use the Greater Ice Shards passive to increase the damage of the skill.
Enchantments
The enchantments that we've chosen are: Frost Nova, Flame Shield, Blizzard.
Legendary Gear
The Legendary Effects we've chosen are:
Helm - Prodigy's Aspect
Pants - Deflecting Barrier
Amulet - Snowguard's Aspect (+50% Effectiveness)
Chest - Protector
2h weapon - Elementalist's Aspect (+100% Effectiveness)
Gloves - Control
Ring - Umbral
Ring - Piercing Cold
Boots - Bounding Conduit
Once again, assuming the legendary effects stack this should give us a damage absorption barrier every 10 seconds, 15% damage reduction while inside of our Blizzard, 40% crit chance to core/mastery abilities while at or above 100 mana, 1 resource generation when CCing enemies, 30% damage to frozen enemies, Ice Shards Pierce, 20% move speed after casting teleport, our barriers have a chance to ignore damage from distant enemies, and our Ultimate restores 80 mana. Besides the Frost Nova passive, this build doesn’t have many ways to regen mana, so we're hoping that the Umbral and Prodigy’s aspects will help smooth out our mana regeneration.
Paragon Boards
For the Paragon Boards, we had four goals:
1. Get as much Intelligence and Willpower as possible.
Because of opportunity cost, you usually want just enough main stats to unlock the rare nodes you want. It's a bit similar to POE skill system, where you want to optimize a path to the bigger, more interesting nodes.
2. Unlock every Legendary Node in each board we put points into.
3. Unlock every Glyph Slot.
4. Get as many Magic Nodes that gave things like Damage to Chilled, Damage to Cold, Barrier Potentcy, etc. as we possibly could.
That will depend on the build, for most classes (but not all), Legendary nodes are a must, but for example in endgame CBT, most the Rogue's Legendary nodes sucked, so you aimed for rare nodes instead (crit damage, attack speed especially). Only the rare nodes have a main stat requirement, the more you add Paragon boards, the higher this requirement becomes on the subsequent boards. Glyphs slot are a must for all boards, as the Glyphs can be leveled up like D3's legendary gems, and they are very powerful.
So usually in a given build you'll want to take 3-4 boards with the most suited Legendary nodes (assuming they don't suck, like Rogue's) for your build and the most interesting rare nodes (but not necessarily all of them on a board). Glyphs slot are a must either way and should be taken on all boards. Legendary Effects don't stack!
It's impossible to know exactly what is and isn't worth taking without having full access to the Paragon Boards and being able to see exactly what each node does. It’s still fun to theory craft and try to come up with builds.
