2/10/2025 3:50:09 PM

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has announced the Legacy of Phrecia event for Path of Exile 1, introducing 19 brand-new ascendancy classes, replacing the existing ones for the duration of the event. This unexpected update comes after the 3.26 delay and is a response to community feedback. Unlike traditional leagues, this event allows for more experimental mechanics, including completely new ascendancies with unique playstyles. In this tier list, we will be ranking some of the most noteworthy new ascendancies that have been revealed so far, evaluating their strengths, weaknesses, and potential impact on the meta.

PoE 1 LoP Tier List - Best New Ascendancies in Path of Exile Legacy of Phrecia Event

With the upcoming Legacy of Phrecia event in Path of Exile 1, players will experience a fresh twist on the game’s core mechanics. Instead of selecting from the usual 19 ascendancies, every class will receive a brand-new ascendancy, completely replacing the existing ones. This event is a direct response to community feedback following the delay of Patch 3.26, and it offers a month-long opportunity to experiment with new and unconventional builds.

The Legacy of Phrecia event brings an experimental approach, allowing Grinding Gear Games to test ideas that may have been scrapped or left unexplored in the past. Some of these ascendancies incorporate mechanics that already exist in the game but have never been fully utilized in this way. This event is reminiscent of Crangled League, where passive trees and ascendancies were shuffled around, but this time, we’re getting entirely new concepts.

Below we will be previewing and ranking all the new 19 ascendancies based on their potential in the Legacy of Phrecia event:

1. Whisperer (Ranger)

The Whisperer ascendancy in the Legacy of Phrecia event of Path of Exile 1 is poised to be a game-changer, offering players an unprecedented blend of power and versatility. This ascendancy allows builds to leverage spell damage as attack damage at a staggering 150% efficiency, enabling explosive damage outputs - potentially reaching billions - while maintaining tankiness. 8. Behemoth (Marauder)

The Behemoth ascendancy is a brutal melee-focused Marauder class that completely disables spellcasting in exchange for insane armor scaling, fortification, and rampage mechanics. It caters to unarmed melee and high-armor brawlers, making it one of the tankiest and hardest-hitting melee ascendancies in the game.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • Rampager – Spell skills deal no damage but melee hits count as Rampage kills.

  • Sheer Fury – Instantly gain up to max Rage on hit.

  • Born Under Fire – Nearby enemies convert 50% of their physical damage to fire.

Pros:

✅ Extremely tanky (life recovery before every hit)

  • Totem-based Chieftain Slam build

  • Ancestral Warchief Strike hybrid

  • Molten Strike Totem Hybrid

10. Bog Shaman (Witch)

The Bog Shaman ascendancy in Path of Exile’s Legacy of Phrecia event introduces a high-risk, high-reward playstyle centered around self-inflicted debuffs in exchange for massive offensive power. This ascendancy is ideal for damage-over-time (DoT) builds, particularly chaos-based and poison mechanics, with several nodes providing multiplicative damage scaling at the cost of survivability. Players who enjoy min-maxing trade-offs and finding creative ways to negate penalties will be drawn to this unique take on a damage-focused Witch ascendancy.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • Pandemic – 40% more damage over time, but lose 5% of life per second if hit recently.

  • Toad Pact – 50% increased projectile speed, area of effect, and skill effect duration, but -20% to all elemental resistances.

  • Brine King’s Blessing – Max cold resistance and freeze immunity.

  • Lunaris’ Gift – Spells fire additional projectiles.

13. Antiquarian (Marauder)

Antiquarian focuses on defensive scaling through Ward and block mechanics, making it a solid but niche choice. Korani Armor converts armor/evasion into Ward, while Far Shot improves projectile damage. While strong for Ward-based tanks, it struggles to compete with more versatile ascendancies.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • Korani Armor – Converts Armor and Evasion into Ward.

  • Lioneye’s Hair – Attacks cannot be evaded.

  • Lohon's Eyes Bow – Grants Far Shot, increasing projectile damage.

Cons:

❌ Niche Playstyle
❌ Weaker Than Other Tank Options

Ideal Builds:

  • Ward-Based Tank

  • Far Shot Bow Build

  • Block-Based Marauder

14. Surfcaster (Shadow)

Surfcaster could be one of the strongest ascendancies in Legacy of Phrecia event, enabling full Lightning-to-Cold conversion while still applying Shock. This double-dipping effect boosts both damage and defensive layering, making it incredibly potent. Reverse Chill turns a slowdown into an action speed buff, making movement and attacks much faster. These mechanics make Surfcaster the best choice for elemental attack and spell builds.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • Stormy Seas – Converts 100% Lightning to Cold and allows Cold Damage to Shock.

  • Glacial Wave – Chilled enemies deal less damage and take increased damage.

  • Changing Seasons – Reverses Chill on you, increasing action speed instead of slowing you.

  • Ghost of the Deep – Grants 30% movement speed, attack speed, and cast speed.

Pros:

✅ Absurd Elemental Scaling
✅ Strong Defensive Layering
✅ Fastest Ascendancy Due to Reverse Chill
✅ Perfect for High-End Scaling (Eternity Shroud, Incandescent Heart)

Cons:

❌ Requires Proper Gear Scaling
❌ Needs Ailment Effect Investment

Ideal Builds:

  • Lightning Conduit / Storm Brand

  • Cold-to-Lightning Conversion Builds

  • Elemental Attack Builds with Shock Scaling

15. Harbinger (Witch)

The Harbinger ascendancy brings an entirely new approach to time-based mechanics, cooldown recovery, and Harbinger summons. This marks one of the most unique additions to Path of Exile, building upon existing Harbinger-themed items while offering massive buffs to time-related mechanics. Harbinger is a solid choice for spellcasters and trigger builds, offering powerful buffs that were previously difficult to obtain. Its cooldown recovery focus makes it one of the most mechanically interesting ascendancies in this event.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • 40% Increased Cooldown Recovery Rate – Essential for trigger-based builds.

  • Summon Greater Harbinger of Time – Grants a Tailwind-like action speed buff.

  • 100% Increased Area Effect for Hex Skills – Massively boosts curse-based builds.

  • Summon Greater Harbinger of the Arcane – Grants Arcane Surge & Lightning Penetration.

Pros:

✅ Best Ascendancy for Hex-Based Builds

✅ Insane Action Speed Buffs
✅ Flexible Build Options

Cons:

❌ Weak for Non-Curse Builds
❌ High Investment Needed in Curse Effect Scaling

Ideal Builds:

  • Impending Doom Occultist

  • Hexblast Caster

  • Cooldown-Based Trigger Spells (Fire Burst, Ice Nova, etc.)

16. Daughter of Oshabi (Ranger)

Daughter of Oshabi is an ascendancy focused on shrine mechanics and evasion scaling, making it a situational and inconsistent choice. It offers unique buffs but relies heavily on external shrine effects, which can be unpredictable. While it can be fun for thematic builds, it struggles to compete with stronger ascendancies.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • Forest Tracking – Increases attack damage based on evasion and reveals rare enemies on the minimap.

  • Root of the Grove – Inflicts poison when hitting enemies with grasping vines, creating a niche poison synergy.

  • Woodland Shrines – Triggers a random shrine buff every 10 seconds, adding randomized power spikes.

  • Oath of the Magi – Grants various defensive bonuses if equipped gear has no socketed gems.

Pros:

✅ Shrine Buffs Can Be Strong
✅ Evasion Scaling Works Well for Ranged Builds
✅ Poison Synergy on Vines is Interesting

Cons:

❌ Overly Reliant on Shrine RNG
❌ Weaker Than Other Ranger Ascendancies
❌ Difficult to Scale Optimally

Ideal Builds:

  • Shrine-Based Buff Builds

  • Wisps-Based Ranged Builds

  • Poison Vine Attack Builds

17. Gambler (Duelist)

The Gambler ascendancy is built around luck-based mechanics, offering high-risk, high-reward gameplay. While this might appeal to some players, the randomized nature of its bonuses makes it unpredictable and potentially frustrating. While Gambler offers potential for high damage, its reliance on RNG makes it hard to optimize. However, Reversed Odds alone makes it a strong pick for elemental builds.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • Reverse Odds – 50% chance to invert enemy resistances, making them vulnerable.

  • Growing Accumulator – Chance to deal double/triple damage.

  • Heads/Tails – Manipulates block chance, making it lucky/unlucky.

  • Spectacular Parlay – Lucky Critical Strikes, but unlucky hit damage.

Pros:

✅ Huge Damage Potential with Reverse Odds
✅ Chance to Deal Triple Damage
✅ Unique Block Mechanics for Tanky Builds

Cons:

❌ Highly RNG-Based
❌ Requires Specific Scaling to Be Consistent

Ideal Builds:

  • Resolute Technique Melee Builds

  • Block-Based Duelist

  • Elemental Attack Builds with Crit Scaling

18. Servant of Arakaali (Shadow)

The Servant of Arakaali introduces a spider-themed minion playstyle with a mix of poison damage, Critical Strike scaling, and debuffs. It allows Shadow to embrace Necromancer-like mechanics while incorporating Wither and Aspect of the Spider. A solid Chaos-based minion ascendancy that offers poison synergy, Crit scaling, and strong debuffs. It has great potential for Arakaali’s Fang builds and other poison minion setups.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • Minions Have 50% Chance to Poison – Enables poison minion builds.

  • Brood Guard – Triggers Raise Spiders on kill.

  • Neurotoxins – Minions gain crit multiplier per Wither stack.

Pros:

✅ Best Poison Minion Ascendancy
✅ Raise Spiders is Very Strong
✅ Wither Synergy Boosts Minion Damage

Cons:

❌ Requires Minion-Based Setup
❌ Weaker Without Arakaali’s Fang

Ideal Builds:

  • Poison Raise Spiders

  • Poison Skeletons / SRS

  • Withered Minion Crit Builds

19. Architect of Chaos (Templar)

Architect of Chaos is the best ascendancy for Vaal skill builds, providing +3 to all Vaal skill gems and reduced soul cost, allowing for Perma-Vaal setups. Dissolution of Flesh creates a unique defensive mechanic, preventing instant death by storing damage as life reservation. While incredibly strong for Vaal-based playstyles, it offers little for general builds.

Key Passive Nodes:

  • +3 to all Vaal Skill Gems – Massive damage boost to Vaal abilities.

  • Fever for Corruption – Reduces Vaal skill soul cost and increases duration.

  • Dissolution of Flesh – Converts damage taken into reserved life, preventing one-shots.

  • Shepherd of Souls – Grants infinite Vaal skill uptime with reduced soul cost.

Pros:

✅ Best Ascendancy for Perma-Vaal Builds
✅ Insane Scaling for Vaal Skills
✅ Dissolution of Flesh Enables Unique Defenses

Cons:

❌ Useless Without Vaal Skills
