The latest Warcraft Direct has just concluded, and it brought some exciting news for World of Warcraft players - the War Within Patch 11.1 has been officially announced! It features a new zone, a new raid, a new dungeon, and the highly anticipated Season 2 dungeon pool. Plus, one of the most requested changes in WoW history is finally coming. Let’s predict the TWW 11.1 release date, and break down new Mythic+ dungeons, raids, zones, BiS, and content coming to Season 2!
While Blizzard hasn’t officially confirmed the release date of Patch 11.1, we now have a good idea of when it will likely land thanks to recent updates on the 11.0.7 PTR. The Turbulent Timeways event, which was added to the in-game calendar in the latest PTR build, is scheduled to run from January 7th to February 25th, 2025. This seven-week event gives us a strong hint about when Patch 11.1 will drop.
Historically, patches have either been released during or shortly after the Timeways event. For example, Patch 10.1 (in Dragonflight) was released during the final week of the event, while Patch 10.2 arrived a week after the event ended. Based on this, we speculate that WoW TWW 11.1 Season 2 will be released on February 25th, 2025, right after the event ends.
Of course, this is still speculation, but it’s a strong estimate based on recent trends. We’ll likely get an official confirmation soon as more details emerge from Blizzard.
From a brand new zone to a fresh raid and an updated dungeon pool, this update promises to shake things up in Azeroth. Here’s everything you need to know about the 11.1 and all the thrilling content coming in Season 2:
1. New Zone: The Undermine
One of the major highlights of Patch 11.1 is our journey into The Undermine, the fabled Goblin city. This has been rumored and hinted at for a while, but now it's confirmed! The Undermine is a sprawling underground metropolis where players will interact with all the Goblin cartels, including the Venture Co, Steamwheedle, and more.
New Raid: Liberation of Undermine
The Liberation of Undermine raid will pit players against eight bosses, culminating in a showdown with Trade Prince Gallywix. The raid's setting within Undermine gives off strong Suramar vibes, with players taking on Gallywix and the goblin cartels, who seem to have fallen under a tyrannical rule. Expect plenty of mechanical mayhem, bombs, and high-tech goblin gadgets!
2. New Dungeon: Operation Floodgate
Alongside the raid, Patch 11.1 introduces a new dungeon called Operation Floodgate. This dungeon will be part of the Season 2 Mythic+ pool, and while we don’t have all the details yet, we know it will be an essential component of the new season. Typically, 0.1 patches have featured "mega dungeons," but this time it's a regular dungeon that will slot into the Mythic+ rotation.
In addition to Operation Floodgate, the Season 2 dungeon pool will include:
Four dungeons from The War Within,
Three legacy dungeons (one of which is confirmed to be The Motherlode),
And two more legacy dungeons that seem to fit the Goblin theme.
More details on these dungeons will be revealed after the PTR goes live, so stay tuned!
3. New Delves: New Content and Variations
Patch 11.1 will also bring updates to the Delves system. Two new delves will be introduced, along with variations to existing ones. These variations are likely to change how players experience delves, such as starting in different locations or encountering new types of events. The antagonist Z’vir will likely play a role in these new delve variations, adding even more depth and replayability to the system.
As Blizzard has hinted, the Delves system will continue to evolve throughout The War Within expansion, with further upgrades planned for future patches. If this system proves successful, we can expect it to be expanded further in future expansions.
4. New Mounting System: Goblin Trikes and Ground Racing
One of the most exciting announcements is the new Goblin Trike Mounting System. Described as the “sky riding of ground mounts,” this new system allows players to customize and race Goblin trikes. Inspired by 1920s gangster cars, these trikes are built for speed, with customization options similar to Dragonriding.
The system introduces new mechanics like drifting and grip, which will likely play into how players navigate The Undermine. If flying isn’t available in the zone, this new ground-mount racing system could be a fun and immersive way to explore the terrain. It’s a fresh take on ground mounts, giving players more control and speed while adding a layer of fun and engagement.
5. New Feature: Player Housing Teased
A huge surprise at the end of Warcraft Direct was the brief mention of Player Housing! This is an incredibly requested feature that fans have been asking for since the introduction of Garrisons in Warlords of Draenor. However, details are still scarce. The teaser was followed by the World of Warcraft: Midnight logo, leading to speculation that player housing could either arrive in a future patch of The War Within or as part of the next expansion.
While we don’t know where houses will be located, whether in major cities like Stormwind or Orgrimmar or if players will be able to customize multiple homes, the possibilities are exciting. Will player housing have utility, such as portals or storage, or will it be purely cosmetic? These are questions we’ll have to wait to get answered.
Blizzard has also provided a roadmap for The War Within, outlining the major patches and updates players can expect throughout 2025 and beyond:
Patch 11.1.5 will feature new content, including Nightfall and horrific visions revisited, a throwback to the popular endgame content from BFA.
Patch 11.2 will introduce a new raid, a new dungeon, and additional world events. Notably, Blizzard has opted for smaller, individual dungeons rather than the mega-dungeons seen in past expansions.
Patch 11.2.5 and 11.2.7 will continue expanding on the War Within story, with more system updates and seasonal rewards refreshes.
Additionally, the roadmap includes a midnight expansion reveal scheduled for Summer 2025. This expansion is widely anticipated to introduce major new systems, including player housing, and could potentially mark a shift towards shorter, more frequent expansions.
