Mythic Plus is coming to the War Within in 1-2 months. Which spec and class is fun? What should your tank play? What should your healer play? Read our the War Within Mythic+ tier list, we have ranked the best M+ DPS, Tanks & Healers!
Having a good class and spec composition is important for Mythic+ groups in The War Within. Different specs bring different types of damage that are useful in different situations. Having a mix of strong AoE, cleave, and ST specs helps handle all mob types. Beyond damage, specs provide important utility like buffs, CC, mobility, survivability tools. Filling key utility roles like interrupts, vulnerability debuffs is important. Without further ado, let's check the War Within best Mythic+ (M+) classes and specs.
S Tier
Augmentation
Augmentation is the best the War Within Mythic+ spec that buffs the whole group, including the tank and healer. This makes it very strong for higher-level keys where survivability becomes more challenging. Even though its own DPS contribution may not be the highest, Augmentation is "required" for the highest keys because its buffs allow the tank and healer to handle encounters 1-2 key levels higher.
Arcane Mage
Frost Mage
Fire Mage
Mage specializations also provide group-wide buffs through Arcane Intellect and the talents/specs of other party members. Combined with low cooldown AoE stuns and a tendency to get buffed if underperforming, Mages are the best the War Within M+ classes and remain a strong/meta choice.
Maybe S Tier
Guardian Druid
Guardian Druid has decently high sustained damage that is good for both single target and AoE situations needed in high-level M+. Thrash provides good cleave damage. Capable self-sustain through abilities like Frenzied Regeneration and Ironfur allows it to stay alive without relying heavily on healer. This is important in high-key M+ where damage intake is high. Provides Bear Form aura which increases ally resistance. This group's defensive utility is very strong in M+ environment. Overall Guardian Druid may be the best TWW mythic+ spec that excels at the tank role in high-level Mythic+
Blood Death Knight
Blood Death Knight is predicted to be one of the best War Within M+ tank specs. It received several class tree and talent reworks that increased its passive damage reduction and lowered the cooldowns of its defensive abilities. Its damage profile is spiky, as health can go from 100 to 0 quickly if cooldown rotation or externals are not managed properly. But some players enjoy this high-risk playstyle. The Deathbringer talent is recommended to invest more in effective HP versus self-healing, as successive Death Strikes do not heal as much.
A strength is Death Grip, which provides valuable utility in pulls where mobs need to be gripped or gathered tightly together. This utility helps meet the high bar for melee DPS to be considered meta. It may struggle in the highest keys if the cooldown rotation is not clean or if healer support falters. But overall damage and survivability are stronger than ever for Blood DK.
Restoration Shaman
Resto Shaman can buff the whole group's max health significantly through talents (up to 20% from Ancestral Vigor, Downpour, and Ascendance if talented). This is noted as a very strong effect. Party damage reduction is also provided through 5% from Earth Shield. When calculating survivability against one-shot mechanics, having a Resto Shaman healing amplifies survivability a lot thanks to the max health increases. One downside is they have long time healing, which can cause issues if the shaman gets stuck channeling too much.
Restoration Druid
Restoration Druid's healing throughput is lower than Resto Shaman, Holy Paladin, and Resto Shaman. However, the main thing Restoration Druid brings to the group is damage. It often does higher damage than the tank on some boss fights. This extra damage is valuable for encounters with tight DPS checks, like the first and third bosses in Necrotic Wake. Restoration Druid is able to "keep up" with healing in most encounters despite having slightly lower throughput, thanks to its damage contribution. Its healing niche is a "high damage healer" that can supplement groups' damage needs in places where damage checks are tight.
Elemental Shaman
Elemental Shaman is the front-runner DPS spec and is considered to be in a really good spot on our TWW M+ ranking. Main reasons given are that it brings a raid buff (ancestralGuidance/SpiritWolf), and has a strong damage profile. The rotation is doing high single-target damage on the main target while also funneling a lot of priority damage via flame shock DoTs on multiple targets. Mobility and utility from short cooldown kicks/interrupts are mentioned as strengths, as for Resto. No real weaknesses for Ellie beyond the standard inspect requirement to compete with melee/physical damage bringers.
Frost Death Knight
Unholy Death Knight
A Tier
Protection Paladin
Originally thought to be completely unplayable due to low healing/armor, but buffs have improved its viability. Word of Glory heals for more and armor is higher after adjustments. Damage is massive thanks to a potentially overturned Lightsmith talent/build. Strategy involves using cooldowns during high damage and kiting/running when needed. Often armor is sufficient to stand and tank without kiting, even in lower keys. Utilities like Avenger's Shield, Blessing of Spellwarding are assets. Requires a healer partnership to stay alive on bosses/ heavier damage. Can fall over quickly in higher keys if damage taken without CDs is too high. Healing reliance makes it dependent on healers compared to self-sustaining tanks.
Vengeance Demon Hunter
VDH will have strength in extended Meta uptime, but be highly reliant on healer support due to reduced active mitigation and difficulties surviving without cooldowns or heals. Damage remains good but dependent on external support for survival. Considered a viable Mythic plus spec in the War Within if healing support is provided.
Beast Mastery Hunter
Preservation Evoker
Subtlety Rogue
Havoc Demon Hunter
while damage is highlighted as high, Havoc is not definitively predicted as meta on its own. But synergies with Vengeance talents, and utility like Chaos Brand, are assessed positively and could help it compete among strong melee options.
Enhancement Shaman
Enhancement Shaman is doing very great damage currently. Benefits from the 5% group damage buff that all Shaman specs provide through Maelstrom Alignment/Mage's Intellect. Short cooldown interrupts/kicks provide valuable utility and off-healing.
Survival Hunter
Survival Hunter damage is deemed very high based on available data.
Affliction Warlock
Affliction damage is placed in the A Tier among ranged specs. Not top or bottom on this War Within m plus tier list. Affliction brings utility through Grimoire of Supremacy, a buff that increases party Stamina. This buff could push Affliction into an "unexpected" meta spot situationally where survivability is highly valued. Rot damage profiles like Affliction's could receive buffs to push them higher over the course of the beta.
Shadow Priest
Shadow Priest brings utility through Void Shift, which transfers damage taken to the Priest. It is a spec that could rise to the meta situationally where survivability is highly valued, similar to Affliction Warlock.
B Tier
Protection Paladin
Considered one of the stronger tanks currently thanks to damage bursts, but reliance on healers and potential fall-off in highest keys leaves some question marks.
Windwalker Monk
Beast Mastery Hunter
Marksmanship Hunter
Balance Druid
Placed in "mid" tier currently as damage deemed somewhat lacking, but potentially buffable higher. Potential but uncertainties keep it from top best the War Within M+ rankings for now.
