Dragonflight 10.2 New Contents & Changes - Season 3 Zone, Raid, Dungeons, PvP Updates, Tier Sets

Patch 10.2 Guardians of the Dream was just announced, and there are so many updates coming our way. We have a massive gearing overhaul that opens up the upgrade system to allow more players to take part and it allows us to upgrade our gear even further. There are huge class changes including quite a few complete reworks, a whole new zone set in the Emerald Dream, a brand new 9 boss raid to pillage with so many different extra goodies to chase after, including a new legendary which strangely doesn't seem to be for the Druids like everyone assumed it would be. There are new race customizations, Dragon riding mounts, new ways to fly in the Dragon Isles and so much more. This patch is shaping up to be absolutely huge. Now let's go through all the contents & changes about Dragonflight 10.2 patch Season 3 & PTR so far!

Dragonflight 10.2 New Zone

The new zone is what everyone is going to see first when we hop into this patch for real when it hits live servers. We're finally heading to the Emerald Dream. We can dragonride right from the get-go just like Zaralek Cavern, so you don't have to worry about earning the ability to fly again. In fact, a lot of quests will require you to dragon ride, so it's quite the opposite. Most of the zone is lush and green as you would expect of the dream, but there are a few pockets of fiery incursions as Fyrakk tries to get his hands on the new world tree, which you can find looming over everything. And that tree grew pretty quickly, it's a fantastic looking zone and we should also have quite a lot of activities to keep us busy.

Dragonflight 10.2 Outdoor Events

There will be 3 new open world events to take part in, one of them has us follow around a tree int around the zone protecting them and collecting goodies. There's another one which is a big farming event, so probably kill as many monsters as you can, where you also collect up some seeds. Then the third event is all about planting those seeds and everyone coming together to create the largest bloom you can get. The more players that join in, the better rewards you're going to get.

Dragonflight 10.2 New Renown Faction

We'll also have a new faction to earn reputation and renown with the dream wardens. There will be very Emerald Dream themed and we may even get some special story quests and new content unlocks, just like how the niffen worked for patch 10.1.

Dragonflight 10.2 New World Boss

The zone does have a new world boss as well, so we'll be able to get our hands on some shiny new gear at pretty high item levels.

Dragonflight 10.2 New Dragon Riding Drake

We even get a new Dragonriding mount as soon as we arrive in the dream. The Flourishing Whimsydrake is a fey Dragon styled mount, it's currently completely broken on the PTR, but thankfully we have some previews from the 10.2 announcement. This is a reward from one of the very first quests in the Emerald Dream zone, so everyone will be flying around on it before you know it.

Dragonflight 10.2 New 9 Boss Raid

The new patch also brings an entire new raid, it's a 9-boss raid and seems to revolve around the new world tree, that's the true goal of this entire patch. By the looks of things, we want to defend it, Fyrakk wants to corrupt it. The raid is split into several distinct wings, some of them have been spared Fyrakk’s fiery influence up until now, so we have more naturey-themed bosses and environments to work through. And other areas have been fully invaded by Fyrakk’s forces, so lots of fire bosses and even some violence encroachment is very interesting indeed.

Dragonflight 10.2 New Legendary

The raid culminates with an encounter with the primal aspect of fire himself and there are plenty of goodies waiting at the end of this one. There's a legendary two-handed axe which Fyrakk seems to use.

Other Reward from Fyrakk

Fyrakk also has several mounts that he can drop or he can reward. the first dragon riding transmog is a reward from the ahead of the curve achievement. So you get to ride around on Fyrakk after you beat him on heroic mode. There's another version of this where it's basically more fiery, that one seems to be a rare manuscript drop. And then there's also a fiery owl mountain that drops from Fyrakk on Mythic difficulty which is also a dragon riding mount. So lots of mounts to go after as well.

Dragonflight 10.2 Tier Sets

We're also going to get all new tier sets for every class. There are so many different colors for each set, some of them look better than others and there are actually a few other gear sets that look really cool. Head over to these sites and check all classes' tier sets for 10.2 Season 3:

Other Special Raid Items and Effects

There are also a whole bunch of special items and effects to collect from the raid including powerful trinkets, various weapons with special effects and a new helmet engine. This enchant does different things depending on your active role, and it's not consumed upon use. So when you get this, you can keep re-enchanting your headpieces as you replace them.

Dragon Riding Raid Boss

Another very unique thing about the new range is that we're going to have a dragon riding encounter. We'll be zooming around collecting things, dodging things, typical Dragon riding stuff.

Dragon Riding Updates

We have quite a few updates there as well, we'll have several new glyphs to collect in the new Emerald Dream zone, as well as three new talents to spend those glyphs on. Second Wind lets you instantly generate one figure, you can hold 3 charges on a 3-minute cooldown each, so you can hold up to 3 vigor in the bank, so to speak and just generate them whenever you need them. Winds respite causes aerial halt to let you hover for 4-seconds by the sound of things. So you can redirect yourself without immediately dropping out of the sky and swift skimming lets ground skimming occur while at high speeds, giving you even more Vigor generation. We're also going to get new dragon riding customization options including some options for the Grotto Netherwing Drake.

Old Flying in Dragon Isles

Something that we definitely weren't expecting was a new Pathfinder achievement. The implementation is not final, but the idea and the reward definitely seemed to be. Earning the dragon Isles Pathfinder achievement will let you use normal flying mounts in the Dragon Isles, so you won't be locked into just Dragon riding mounts, you can then use any of your old flying mounts with the old style of flying as well.

Dragonflight Season 3 Dungeons

Patch 10.2 also brings us into Season 3 of Dragonflight. Obviously, we've got the new raid, a new PVP season, as well as a Mythic+ season. The dungeon pool is changing once again and the next season has some very interesting choices.

  • Dawn of the Infinite: Galakrond’s Fall

  • Dawn of the Infinite: Murozond’s Rise

  • Waycrest Manor

  • Darkheart Thicket

  • Black Rook Hold

  • The Everbloom

  • Throne of the Tides

  • Atal' Dazar

Dragonflight 10.2 Huge Gearing Overhaul

- It's not just new dungeons to run through though, patch 10.2 will completely change the upgrades system for gear. So we have a massive gearing overhaul coming our way as well. To start with fragments are being removed, so we only have to worry about crests going forward. It's just going to be one currency instead of two and it will actually also be a currency in 10.2 as well. So your crests are going to go into your currency tab, freeing up a bunch of backspace.

- The upgrade tracks for Heroic and mythic level gear have also been extended, so we'll be able to upgrade gear further than before allowing us to achieve much higher item levels when all of our gear is fully upgraded.

- On the topic of upgrades, as you progress through the upgrade system, you will now be allowed to trade up your crests. So if you upgrade all of your gear to the point where you can no longer benefit from or use whelpling crests for example, you will then be allowed to trade your whelp crests up to drake crests and continue with your gear upgrading adventures. When you're then done with drake crests, you'll be able to trade them up for wyrm crests and then you can even trade up to aspect crests if you get a high enough item level. That means everyone will be able to upgrade their gear much higher than before and have access to every type of crest as long as you keep upgrading gear, and reaching higher item levels. This also means that as you reach those higher item levels and can then only benefit from a certain crest, those lower crests aren't worthless because you can just trade them up and trade them up until you get to a crash that you can use.

- There is one kind of negative change to rein in the potential of this New Freedom though. Crests are going to be capped at 90 per week, limiting you to just 6 upgrades per week of crest farming, down from the 10 per week we could get in Season 2. So while we will be earning crests slower and upgrading slower, the overall upgrade potential is higher and more accessible. Thankfully there's another great change being squeezed in here too, when you are capped on crests for the week, doing content that would reward you with additional crests past your cap will automatically just give you the next tier down of crests. So you don't have to actively target wyrm crests if you're full on aspect crests, you'll get the next tier down of crests automatically.

- PVP gear will now also use flightstones and crests in season 3, and all PVP content will reward flightstones and rated content is going to reward you with crests. Some will have new options for farming these currencies, and PVP players are being brought into the new upgrade system.

Dragonflight 10.2 Weekly Vault

The great vault is also going to see a pretty big change to help solo and world content players. The dungeon row for the great vault will no longer just require Mythic+ dungeons. You can now also fill up that row by completing standard Mythic dungeons, heroic dungeons, or even time walking dungeons. So it should be easier to get a reward in the weekly vault even if you don't do the harder group content.

Revival Catalyst on Day 1

- Another huge change coming in Season 3 is for the Revival Catalyst. The Revival Catalyst allows you to turn pieces of seasonal gear into tier set gear to get those bonuses more reliably. Usually, the Catalyst doesn't open or become available for quite a while, but that's going to change in Season 3. We're going to get the Catalyst in week 1 of the new season, that gives everyone a chance to get their tier set bonuses super early and you'll have a reliable method of earning that 4 set bonus faster than ever before.

- There is one other important change here however, instead of getting a charge once per week, we will be limited to 1 charge every 2 weeks. That still gives us four charges earlier than before though, this means that no matter what kind of content you do, you should be able to get one of your tier set pieces every two weeks in patch 10.2.

Dragonflight 10.2 PvP Updates

It's not just PvE updates this time though we have some new PvP content to look forward to. The Battleground Blitz Brawl is a new curable PvP option, it's solo queue 8 vs 8 Battlegrounds with a faster pace. So a shorter match timer and faster mount speed by the looks of things. The Dev team also said this is basically the first step towards a potential solo queue rated Battleground option, so we might be getting expanded solo queue rated options in the near future as well.

There are also various new PvP rewards to look forward to including new vicious mounts for horde and Alliance, as well as the new Gladiator to full transmog mount for this Slitherdrake.

Dragonflight 10.2 Class Changes

10.2 also brings so many different class and talent changes. All 3 Rogue specs are getting reworked, so huge changes coming for Rogues as we head into this patch. Demon Hunters are also on the list for a big talent rework, so expect to see more changes for both of these classes when compared to everything else. It looks like Priests will see some huge changes too, Discipline is getting reworked to be easier and simpler to play, while both Power Infusion and Mass Dispel are getting some serious nerfs. Various Druid specializations are getting looked at again and there's just a whole bunch of big class changes coming with this patch.

Dragonflight 10.2 Healing Nerf

There's also a huge change for how healing in general is going to work for the next patch. The Dev team are specifically looking to reduce the power level and effectiveness of AOE heals and raid cooldowns, while increasing the throughput of single target heals. Mana regen effects and abilities are also getting nerfed, and they want mana management to be more important.

Dragonflight 10.2 New Customizations & Druid Forms

We also have some new race customizations to look forward to. On the 10.2 banner with a list of updates, Blood Elf customizations is listed as one of the key features. In this first build, we have four new blood elf hair colors to pick and choose from.

Druid will also see quite a few updates to their various forms. That Moomkin form is getting updated with new variations, the Fire Cat form is getting an update too, and there are also some other fiery options to unlock via the raid and New World content. A lot of different new forms have been data mined, we're not too sure how many of these will have access to, but quite a few of them have glyphs that have already been data mined as well. If the glyph exists, chances are pretty high that we'll be able to unlock these options at some point during the patch.

Other Night Elf Heritage Armor Colors

A lot of players will be happy about is that we do have confirmation that the White Knight Elf Heritage armor set will be made available in game at some point.
