POE EK Ignite Tech Budget Guide - Ignite Prolif, Phys to Cold Conversion, Spell Suppression, More auras, and more

3/8/2023 9:52:23 AM

This is the first league where we've really thoroughly crafted your own gear for a fairly high-end character, so we wanted to share it with anyone else looking to do the same. We know it's late in the league, but hopefully it'll come in handy to someone.

The tech you want to include:

  1. Phys to cold conversion

  2. Ignite prolif

  3. Explode

  4. Exposure on hit

  5. Onslaught

  6. Curse (flammability)

  7. More auras

  8. Ele ailment immunity

  9. Spell Suppression

  10. Cranking your DPS

  11. Attributes and Resists

Phys to Cold Conversion

-You can start with Hrimsorrow (100% conversion). Upgrade ASAP.

-40% from tree.

-You can get up to 25% from crafted glove modifier or 35% from unveiled modifier.

20-40% from Hatred watcher's eye.

Recommended upgrade path: Start Hrimsorrow. As soon as you can afford decent rare gloves, get them + 40% from tree and top off phys conversion with 40% phys to fire from the tree. It's still good damage.

Once you can afford watcher's eye, buy one with 35%+ conversion on it (costs a couple extra divines, but it's worth it). That way, you can use the crafted mod on the gloves and you aren't tied to unveiled gloves. This makes your glove slot waaaaaay more flexible.

Ignite Prolif + Explode + Exposure
Some sources of each:

-Ignite prolif: support gem (big damage sacrifice), gloves eldritch implicit (searing exarch; radius 14 (grand) to 17 (fully upgraded)), Fan the Flames (medium burning cluster notable; 15 radius). There's probably more.

-Explode: obliteration (starting option), synthesized bow implicit (180div base), unspeakable gifts cluster notable (most accessible through Megalomaniac). There are others, but I'm not aware of any as convenient or without significant limitations/downsides.

-Exposure on hit: wave of conviction, gloves eldritch implicit (eater) - 13% (using grand) to 16% (max upgraded).

Our recommendation is the following progression:

-Very budget: ignite prolif from gem, explode from obliteration, exposure can start from Wave of Conviction, but should be upgraded to glove implicit ASAP. Consistent exposure is a HUGE damage upgrade.

-Pretty budget: Prolif from Fan the Flames; exposure on hit from gloves; explode from obliteration. Note: We recommend NOT using gloves implicit for proliferation. You can get a lot of fire DOT multi for a big damage boost from that slot, and fan the flames is very accessible.

-Pretty pricey: get explode from Unspeakable Gifts on a Megalomaniac with 1-2 other good notables and replace your Obliteration with a good wand (+1 all, +1 phys, and fire DOT multi) or bow (see MaxRoll crafting guide; do that bow but without the explode implicit). Fan the flames for prolif and exposure on hit from gloves.

-Endgame: mbXtreme's Maxroll setup with the explode bow would be pretty badass.

Onslaught
Good uptime on onslaught is a HUGE quality of life improvement in this (and every) build. 20% move speed, attack speed, and cast speed is great offense and defense.
Budget: Start with a silver flask.Mid: Upgrade to Brutal Restraint with onslaught on kill. High-end: Onslaught boots. Craft your suffixes (see below re spell suppression). Craft on suffixes can't be changed (the new beastcraft is cheaper than the 2div on the crafting bench). Hit with a veiled chaos. Block life or mana if you have an open slot, then unveil. About 1/4 chance to get move speed w/ chance for onslaught on kill.

Curse
Flammability is a huge damage boost. At lower budgets, you may need curse on hit for efficient clear. Later you won't need it.
Progression:Start with a Mark of Submission socketed with high level flammability. 1-2c for level 20 flammability on hit is great for clear when your gear sucks.
Mid: flammability on hit ring with useful stats. This applies level 1 flammability which is only about half the effect of level 20, so you're missing out on a lot of bossing damage, but it's still helpful for clear.
Goal: with your gear upgraded, you can clear juiced T16 content smoothly without a curse; you really just want it for bosses and especially tough rares. Move high-level flammability into your Arcanist Brand setup (along with hydrosphere for Gloomfang chain + flame surge for burning ground).

More Auras

Our recommended upgrade path:

  1. Start with determination + discipline + herald of ash + herald of purity. Divine Blessing: link to both haste and hatred. Use haste for clear, hit hatred on tougher enemies. No tech (other than the tree) needed to get this setup. Low level vitality optional.

  2. First big upgrade: craft 20% reservation efficiency on a helm enchanted with 30% increased reservation efficiency for hatred, and add Enlighten 3. This lets you add Hatred to your permanent aura setup. Now you can add malevolence to your divine blessing setup.

  3. (Alternate: you may be able to craft 11% reservation efficiency on a blizzard helm without the efficiency implicit and use enlighten 4 to get the same setup)

  4. End game upgrade: Move auras to bow 6-link with enlighten 4. Anoint Charisma. Add Grace to your permanent aura setup. Congrats, you now have all 3 major defensive auras, two heralds, hatred, and malevolence/haste all at once!

Ailment Avoidance
This one has a ton of options:

-Boots: Essence of Loathing for 31-35%. Eldritch implicit (eater, I think) for 31-32% at top tier.

-Shield: 31-35% as a suffix.

-Grand Spectrum with 12% per grand spectrum (three of these gets 100% avoid; or two plus decent boots).

-Lots of notables on the tree you can anoint or access with Impossible Escape for 20-25%.

-Spell Suppression small cluster has a notable with 10% suppress and 20% ailment avoidance.

-Stormshroud applies your % shock avoidance to all elemental ailments.

Our recommendation:

  1. Budget: just use flasks + pantheon to handle ailment problems.

  2. Mid budget: 2x grand spectrums (48%) + Loathing-crafted boots with lower-tier implicit for the other 52%. Or boots + >33% shock avoid abyssal jewel + Stormshroud.

  3. High budget: 65-67% on boots + 33-35% on shield (if using a shield), or one ailment avoid grand spectrum paired with two other grand spectrums (frenzy and endurance, e.g.) for 36%.

  4. There are lots of other options here!

Spell Suppression

100% spell suppression is a game changer for this build. You go from being "just don't get hit" squishy to pretty damn durable. There are a number of ways you can do this with sacrificing some points on the tree or anoints, but I recommend just crafting suppression gear.

For 1ish div per slot you can buy a fractured base with the the following:

  1. 14% - gloves

  2. 14% - boots

  3. 14% - helm

  4. 23-27% - shield (5% implicit + up to 22% explicit; note the higher end of this is REALLY expensive)

  5. 34% - tree (Instinct wheel + 12% mastery from gloves, boots, and helm having eva)

  6. Total: 100-103%

Another great (but not cheap) option is getting a Skin of Lords with Magebane to take off some pressure by adding 10-12% spell suppression based on your dex.

Once you replace the shield with bow + quiver, you'll need an Impossible Escape (Precise Technique) to cap spell suppress, or some creative cluster jewel use.

When crafting this gear: don't get fixated on getting the perfect roll or you'll spend yourself into oblivion. If you get a good craft, sell it for a profit, buy a new base, and start another craft. Repeat until you get the one you need. Remember it's easy to switch elemental resists from the Harvest crafting bench.

Gloves: Buy an int/dex or str/dex base with fractured 14% spell suppression. Craft with your preferred essence. For best results I'd suggest Dex or Strength essences. You're looking for a good third suffix (T1 or T2 resist, str or dex), a respectable life roll, and an open prefix to craft cold conversion. Implicits: I recommend using grand exarch POE currency to roll for fire DOT multi or fire DOT multi in the presence of a unique, then orb of conflict it to top tier. Then use grand eater ichors to roll for exposure on hit. Congrats, you're done!

Boots: Buy an int/dex or str/dex base with fractured 14% spell suppression. Craft with Essence of Loathing until you get the desired third T1 suffix. When you get your perfect suffixes, it's worth spending some poe currency on the boots:

  1. Suffixes can't be changed

  2. Veiled Chaos Orb

  3. Block an affix (mana or life) and unveil for a roughly 50/50 chance to get a great speed roll: onslaught or extra move speed if you haven't been hit recently. Go for onslaught if not using (or upgrading from) Brutal Restraint to get onslaught. If sticking with Brutal Restraint, go for extra move speed if you haven't been hit.

  4. Craft on life (hopefully).

These boots have (at least, had earlier in the league) great resale value even if you don't hit perfect move speed or life, so take your time and craft a few until you get the one you need for yourself.

Helm: Get a fractured base with your desired enchant. Fractured suppress with hatred reservation was about 3div when I bought it fairly early in the league; EK enchants on a good fractured base (blizzard crown or a good int/dex base) were really expensive (10+ div). Craft with essence of loathing until you have a good third suffix plus either a high life roll or decent prefixes with an empty slot where you can craft on 70 life. If not using a blizzard crown, roll for mana reservation efficiency (eater) with grand ichors, then orb of conflict it to T1. Then use grand exarch currency to roll for increased flammability effect.

Shield: If going for ailment avoid tech (recommended), spam deafening essence of greed on your 24%+ fractured base (so 5% implicit plus 19-22% fractured explicit) until you get T1 ailment avoid and a second good suffix. There's a 1/44 chance to hit T1 ailment avoid. Depending on how picky you are with your "good" suffix threshold, you can get a great shield for anywhere from a couple div of crafting to 10+ div worth of greed essences.

DPS

Cranking your single target DPS takes quite a bit of fine tuning.

  • We highly recommend a well-rolled Replica Emberwake at mid-budget. 54% faster ignite damage (45% plus 20% from catalysts) is a 54% more multiplier on your ignite damage--while the ignite is going. That's on top of a large increased fire damage roll. For me, this was what put me over from okay clear to one-shot-everything in T16 maps on a modest budget (12-15 div, probably). You need unbound ailments for this to work, otherwise the 90% reduced duration will kill your ignites. In the endgame, when you have enough DPS to kill everything instantly without it, you may want to replace with a good Essence of Delirium crafted DOT multi ring with life/resists/attributes to take pressure off other slots.

  • Going to 2 large clusters and 3 medium clusters can give HUGE DPS boosts, but comes at a big cost to tankiness.

  • Polaric devastation for covered in ash is a big boost (20% increased damage taken from your ignites)

  • You can get a lot of increased aura effect and increased non-damaging ailment effect on your Brutal Restraint. 10-30% increased effect of hatred, malevolence, and shock is massive on this build.

  • Near-permanent onslaught from your Brutal Restraint is also a huge boost.

  • Stacking DOT multi, fire DOT multi, and ignites deal damage faster (up to a point) scales your damage through the roof. Jewels can combine all three of these if you aren't using grand spectrums.

  • Getting good cast speed and move speed helps a lot in having high damage uptime even if you have short ignites with a replica emberwake.

  • Anything dealing "% of X damage as extra Y damage" can capitalize on all your conversion (phys -> cold -> fire plus Gloomfang). Atziri's flask, Taste of Hate, good quiver and shield rolls, etc.

Attributes and Resists
This build is pretty tight on attributes and resists. You use a lot of uniques, especially if you slap on a HH and/or Replica Emberwake. Good tools: Brutal Restraint gives a lot of dex, especially if you prioritize one or two +20 rolls. Split personality in a pinch. Impossible Escape with Precise Technique gives access to Utmost Swiftness, which is a big boost.

You need pretty much every suffix available if you want capped suppression and two unique rings, while still having enough attributes for max level auras. You have a LOT more flexibility if you want to drop one of the DPS rings, or if you want to forgo capped spell suppression. A few extra suffixes goes a long way.

Use jewels to fill in gaps if needed, though jewel slots are in high demand as you scale the build.
