As rare as they are valuable in Diablo 2 Resurrected, the small D2R items - D2R Runes allow you to obtain powerful bonuses on the equipment, and especially to compose the fantastic runewords viable at high level. Depending on whether the runes are socketed into a helmet, a weapon, armor or a shield, different properties result. In other words, Diablo 2 Runes are rich in possibilities, no matter on Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder or Non-Ladder mode.

There are 33 different runes in Diablo 2 Resurrected, each with its own unique name and set of properties. They range in power from the basic El rune, which adds a small bonus to mana, to the extremely powerful Zod rune, which has the ability to make an item completely indestructible.

Features you should know about Diablo 2 Resurrected Runes:

• Much like D2R Gems, you can also combine Runes with the Horadric Cube to create rarer and higher quality runes.

• Be careful in any case, since once placed in an object, it is impossible to recover the Rune. Even the Horadric Cube recipe for removing crimped objects will just destroy them.

• Some Runes are very common like El and Eld, but others like Cham and Zod are exceedingly rare, it is possible to play thousands of hours without crossing them.

Here are the main use of D2R Runes in the game:

• Socket In Gear & Weapon - In Diablo 2 Resurrected, runes can be embedded in pieces of equipment (helmet, weapon, armor, shield) in order to get additional stats. Their effect depends on the type of item in which they have been placed, it is different between a weapon and a piece of armor for example.

• Runewords - Placing runes in a specific order on a right common item creates a runeword that will add special stats in addition to the basic effects of the runes. The resulting combination activates an even more powerful bonus. You can find out which rune words and the associated rules there are in our guide to the runewords.

• Horadric Cube Recipes - We not only need runes for our equipment, but also for numerous recipes for the Horadric Cube. Along with other recipes, we can craft Diablo 2 Resurrected items with runes.

• Upgrade Runes - With the help of the Horadric Cube we can upgrade runes. For this, depending on the rune, we need 2-3 specific runes and a gem. The exact recipes can also be found in our guide to the Horadric Cube.

• Trading Currency - In Diablo 2 Resurrected, runes are more valuable than gold as a consumable. Since higher demand consumables are of higher value, D2R runes especially high runes like the Pul Rune (Lvl 45) and above are used as currency in Diablo 2 trading market to facilitate transactions between players.

We get runes in Diablo 2 Resurrected as loot from enemies. They are also found in destructible and lootable objects such as chests, barrels. Sometimes we also get them as a reward for quests. Runes are placed in empty sockets on our weapons, helmets, armor, or shields. Depending on the item type, we are granted a bonus. We reveal the best way to collect runes in Diablo 2 Resurrected. There are some tricks with which you can farm runes specifically, but also things that do not work:

• Farming Runes at the Countess - In the Black Moor (Act 1) is the forgotten tower with five levels. At the highest level, we face the Countess. It leaves up to 3 runes as prey. Which runes she leaves behind mainly as prey depends on the degree of difficulty. In addition to her rune drop pool, she can also leave a rune from the zone drop pool. These are better runes such as Fal, Lo, Lem, Shael,Ohm etc., but they are much less likely to be left as prey. The more players are present, the better the Countess's zone drop pool becomes, and thus, on average, more equipment will be left behind than runes. So if you only farm runes from the Countess, then it's best to do it alone.

• Multiplayer Farming  - The more players there are in the game, the higher the chance of loot. This also applies to runes. However, this also increases the degree of difficulty. With good equipment, it is worthwhile to go on rune hunting with several players. If, on the other hand, the equipment is still poor, you may lose too much time farming, so that the increased chance of loot does not pay off. In addition, it is advisable to coordinate with the other players or to play only with players you know. Otherwise, it can happen that other players loot faster and you yourself go away empty-handed. If you play in single-player mode, you can simulate the number of players using the chat command "/players X".

• Runes in Unter-Kurast farms - Some players farm runes through so-called LK runs. In Unter-Kurast there are namely the most super chests in all of Diablo 2. These chests leave many more Diablo 2 items than ordinary chests. Look out for a special house with a campfire and torches. There are 3 super chests in this house. in Unter-Kurast there are 1-2 of these houses. The more players are present, the more effective these LK runs are.

• Farm Runes in the Secret Refuge & Chaos Sanctuary - There are enemies that leave no equipment as loot and the chance of rune drops is higher. These include ghosts in the Secret Refuge and the Chaos Sanctuary. Here we get all runes up to the Zod rune as loot.

• Farming runes in Travincal - The High Council consists of several opponents, all of whom can be found in the Travincal area in the third act. These unique enemies leave more loot than other enemies, so there are also more runes. Except for the Zod rune, we have the chance to get all runes here.

• Chests and Super Chests - Among other things, we also receive runes as loot from chests. There are more at the so-called super chests, which generally house a lot of D2 items. Which runes are in these chests depends on the difficulty and act.

• Runes as quest rewards - There are two quests where we are rewarded with runes. However, since quests cannot be repeated, they are not suitable for farming runes.

• Making runes - Further up in this overview, all runes from Diablo 2 Resurrected are listed by rank. With 2-3 runes of the same type and one gemstone, we get a rune on a higher rank. You can find out exactly which gemstones are needed in our overview of all Hordric cube recipes.

• Trade Runes - If you don't feel like farming or crafting, or need a certain rune, you can also buy D2R items with other players. Here, however, you have the problem that you do not always have the desired D2R items to trade. Often you will not agree on the value of the items.
