In this Madden 21 guide, we are going over the useful tips for The Yard mode from EricRayweather’s video - how to level up your prototypes as fast as possible, the best prototypes to use, and how to take abilities and switch them around to make your prototypes even more powerful so you can really dominate when you get online and play versus other users.
The first thing you are going to understand about the Yard is there's a bunch of different prototypes and you're going to be playing both sides of the ball, so it is a little bit more beneficial to use a prototype that's more balanced on both sides of the ball. However in this mode, it is an arcade style mode, so you really can plug and play any prototype where you want and he'll still perform pretty decently. For example, you can build up a quarterback prototype but you don't have to play quarterback when you go into a game.
You can play any position you want, just because you pick the QB position doesn't mean you have to pick a quarterback prototype - you can pick the Julio Jones prototype and play quarterback, you can plug and play where you want. However, it is going to be more beneficial to have the correct prototype at that position. So if you want to play quarterback, you would be better off with the quarterback prototype because he's going to make all the throws and can make deep throws whereas.
Any of the other positions can still make the short to intermediate throws in the yard, but you're not going to be able to go over the top as consistently because they're not going to have that quarterback throw power, so that's one thing to keep in mind, but you can plug and play where you want.
Now you have quarterback prototypes, wide receivers, DB's, running backs, linebackers and tight ends now. Here's the thing about all the prototypes, it's really important to understand they all unlock a special ability, but you can take that ability and equip it to different prototypes. every prototype at level 12 unlocks an ability, for example, Lamar Jackson at level 12 unlocks Wscape Artists which if you're going to play QB is a nice ability to have (because if you are blitzed you can take off and run) But understand if you're not bliss you cannot run with the QB in this mode.
Those are going to be probably your four best abilities that you can unlock:
- Escape Artists from Lamar Jackson
- Jukebox from Christian Mccaffrey
- Enforcer from Ray Lewis
- Lurker from Bobby Wagner
You can either go lurker enforcer on one of your builds and just have a complete defensive demon; go jukebox and lurker because jukebox and open field is going to make you very hard to be tackled; we probably recommend escape artist and lurker for QB because escape artist is super helpful when people do want to blitz you.
If you're one of the receivers, you might want to look into getting one of the receiver abilities like the deep outer lead or the deep and elite, because once you max out those builds when you have that extra deep rout ability on them and go deep, you're going to aggressive catch over people very consistently. With either of these players when they're maxed out and if you're on the outside and you have deep out elite, you're going to catch the ball like 90 of the time.
But again Lamar Jackson unlocks escape artists at level 12 but you can then take escape artists and put that on the Josh Allen prototype, so you can have the more balanced prototype and take advantage of the escape artist.
You can also then go unlock a defensive ability from one of the other prototypes and put that on Josh Allen for when you are playing on defense. We think that's probably the best way to play is to get an offensive ability and a defensive ability, but to do that you're going to have to level up certain players to level 12, and then you need to max the ones out at 18 that you're going to mainly use because they're going to get their full skills maxed out and they are going to be as fast as they can be.
We would recommend getting two maybe three main prototypes you might want to level up one of the QB's all the way:
Josh Allen - The most balanced and give a little more defense for wide receivers
Michael Thomas - Dominate when he's maxed out like just making crazy catches and coverage
Julio - Fast and have great route running and catching traffic and stuff like that
Both of these guys are really going to be serviceable if you want to be a wide receiver slash cornerback. Below we give you the best builds you can try in the Yard mode:
Josh Allen
When you do see the Lamar Jackson prototype and you see he has a lot of speed and finesse running, if you're playing quarterback you're not going to always be able to take advantage of that, which is why we kind of think that Josh Allen's the best overall QB build because he's balanced on both sides of the ball, and got tackle and hit power, and when you play QB you do play safety on defense. Josh Allen gives you a little bit more on defense but Lamar is going to give you a little bit more in the open field as a runner, so and he's going to be a little bit faster which is it is nice to have a lot of speed in the yard so it's little things to consider like that.
Stefan Gilmore
The current build that we have maxed out is the Stefan Gilmore lockdown we think he's one of the best builds in the game. He can literally hold you at the line if you max out this build, he's got route running which is almost on par with the receivers and get good catching which helps for interceptions. And on offense, he get finesse running which means he can make people miss a decent amount. He's one of the most balanced builds in the game but he plays so well on QB.
Christian Mccaffrey
Christian Mccaffrey is the fastest build in the game so if you just want pure speed. He is super fast and again you don't have to play him at running back, you can play him at receiver. Look at his route running and finesse running, he's going to be fast and he gets jukebox which is one of the best abilities. You can max him out and can even play quarterback to get escape artist on him from Lamar Jackson which makes him insanely fast. It's one of the best builds we think you could do in the game - putting Mccaffrey at QB with escape artists.
1. This is one of the quickest ways to level up: In the Yard mod, you need to come VS CPU and just knock out any of these challenges and level up, but one of the easiest quickest ones is go to the F.O.B NICO, go to the first one Boot Camp - Offense. It's one drive you just score a touchdown and you get like 1500 XP a pop, it takes literally 30 seconds to a minute and probably the quickest easy way to just do it over and over and grind. It's just the quickest like the easiest mindless way to level up any of your prototypes so you can literally spend like half a day and get up any prototype max. Once we get to 10 800 points, we get to the next level, and as you get to different levels, and unlock more gear for your player and more credit which you can use to buy even more gear and equipment for your player.
2. A bit longer way but you get more XP: You can come VS CP and enter the Brandenburg Festival, and then do any of these and you might get more like 3 000 to 5 000 plus XP, so it's a little bit longer because you're playing two drives but you get a little bit more XP for it and you're not loading in and out as quickly. So if you want to get it more that way you can do that as well and it works very well.
3. Playing online you level up super fast, so once you get your prototype to like level five, six, seven, you could honestly take him online at that point.
