Obducite is crucial for powering up your equipment and progressing your character in the endgame through the Masterworking system at the Blacksmith. What's Obducite in Diablo 4?

Obducite is the primary Diablo 4 material used to upgrade equipment affixes through Masterworking in Vessel of Hatred. Masterworking allows you to upgrade and enhance the affixes/stats on your gear at the Blacksmith. It requires Obducite and other materials. Obducite is a magical rarity upgrade material that is earned from activities like clearing Infernal Hordes, Nightmare Dungeons, and Kurast Undercity. It can also be obtained by transmuting other obsolete upgrade materials like Ingoliths and Neathiron at the Alchemist. Obducite is a late-game material only obtainable after reaching level 60 and playing on higher difficulty levels.

If you're looking for just the master working material and nothing else, skipping the greater affix equipment chest and going straight for the materials chest and obducite, in the Inferno Horde is the way to go. But you're sacrificing a lot of other things by doing that. Infernal Hordes yield a higher amount of obducite per hour but have longer average run times. However, not all Inferno Hordes are made the same. You have a choice to do Inferno Hordes with 6, 8, or 10 waves.

Should You Focus On Infernal Hordes With 6 Waves?

No, you do not want to focus on master working. Look at the differences between Infernal Hordes with 6 waves versus Infernal Hordes with 8 or 10 waves. How To Farm Obducite In Diablo 4 Season 6?

Via Infernal Hordes

Run the highest difficulty Horde you can handle comfortably (8+ waves for best rewards).
Make sure to pop a Seething Opal right before the final wave for the item find buff.
Prioritize 8-10 wave Hordes over 6 waves for significantly more drops.
Bring a group for faster clears. Split up and focus different areas.
Learn the spawn points and paths of each map to waste no time moving.
Skip unnecessary monster packs and bee-line to objectives.
Clear events along the way if time permits but don't go too far out of your path.
Open chests/complete bonus rooms if nearby but don't backtrack much.
Save all skills/cooldowns for massive AoE damage on large spawn waves.
Try to finish with 90+ seconds left for maximum loyalty rewards.
Prioritize damage/clear speed over full map clears if time is a factor.
Farm 1-2 areas repeatedly to learn them inside out.
Salavage all unwanted gear drops for refinement shards.

Clear all events along the way. They give a nice chunk of Obducite.

Weakness of Infernal Hordes While Farming Obducite

Infernal Hordes are generally not as efficient as Nightmare Dungeons for farming Obducite and masterwork materials due to their longer clear times, lack of boss drops, riskier difficulty spikes on higher waves, less steady stream of item drops concentrated at the end of runs rather than throughout, repetitive map layouts, shorter duration before cooldowns are ready again, heavier reliance on partying up to maximize loyalty rewards, and playstyle that doesn't appeal to all players as much as the variety offered in dungeons. While Hordes can yield good drops in shorter bursts, the overall yield per hour spent is lower than maximizing farming in Nightmare Dungeons where you kill bosses, complete events, and fully utilize the item find buffs more steadily throughout runs on optimized routes.
