Where & How To Get Iron Chunk & Rawhide in Diablo 4 Season 6 Vessel of Hatred?

10/18/2024 10:51:59 AM

Season 6 of Diablo 4, Vessel of Hatred, introduced several changes to farming materials, particularly Iron Chunks and Rawhide, which are essential for crafting and upgrading gear. In this guide, we'll cover the most efficient ways to farm these materials, based on the latest updates and community-tested methods.

What Are Iron Chunks & Rawhide Used For?

  • Iron Chunk: Used to improve Weapons and Jewelry at the Blacksmith, Occultist, and Jeweler.

  • Rawhide: Used to improve Armor at the Blacksmith and Occultist.

Both materials can be obtained by salvaging gear at the Blacksmith. However, as you dive deeper into the endgame, especially when rerolling or masterworking items, you'll quickly run out of these resources. In this guide, we will explore the best methods to farm these materials efficiently.

Best Ways To Farm Iron Chunks in Diablo 4 Season 6

In Season 6, Iron Chunks have become harder to acquire, especially since Legion Events no longer drop as much loot as they did in previous seasons. However, there are still reliable methods to get them:

1. Whispering Tree Bounties (Whispers of the Dead)

Whispers are one of the fastest and most consistent ways to get materials. Completing them provides Whisper Caches, which contain a variety of crafting resources, including Iron Chunks and Rawhide. These bounties can be found throughout Sanctuary, and completing them not only rewards you with materials but also experience and other loot.

2. Salvaging Gear (Especially from Boss Rotations)

Salvaging gear is the most efficient way to acquire Iron Chunks. Focus on picking up all items dropped by enemies, especially yellow (rare) items, and salvage them at the blacksmith. Boss rotations, particularly in higher-tier Nightmare Dungeons, drop a large number of items that can be salvaged for Iron Chunks. Ancestral Uniques are particularly valuable when salvaged, yielding around 30 Iron Chunks per item. After just a few boss runs, you can accumulate hundreds of Iron Chunks.

3. Helltide Events

During Helltide events, focus on farming Helltide Chests. These chests have been buffed in Season 6 to include more crafting materials, including Iron Chunks. While Hell Tide isn’t the most consistent source for Iron Chunks and Rawhide, it’s still worth opening chests and killing elites during the event to build up your stockpile of materials.

4. Forgotten Soul Buffs

Forgotten Souls, which are used for higher-tier crafting, have had their drop rates buffed significantly in Season 6. As a result, players who farm Hell Tide for Forgotten Souls often end up with a lot of Iron Chunks and Rawhide as a byproduct. Keep this in mind when focusing on high-end crafting materials, as you’ll likely end up with a surplus of the basic ones too.

5. Avoid Open World Farming

Some players resort to walking around the open world collecting veins of iron, but this method is highly inefficient. Instead, focus on boss rotations and salvage strategies for faster accumulation of Iron Chunks.

Best Ways To Farm Rawhides in Diablo 4 Season 6

Rawhide is another essential material, especially for crafting and upgrading leather-based armor. The recent patch in Season 6 has slightly adjusted drop rates, but some methods are still more effective than others.

1. Boss Farming

The best way to farm Rawhide is by killing Tormented Bosses. After the patch, each boss now drops between 30 and 100 Rawhide per kill, a significant increase from the previous 10 Rawhide per kill. For the most efficient farming, focus on bosses that drop more armor pieces, as armor salvages into Rawhide. For example, Beast and Ice and Lord Zir drop a majority of armor-based items, which will yield more Rawhide when salvaged.

2. Salvaging Armor

Like with Iron Chunks, salvaging is key. Killing bosses that drop a lot of armor items and then salvaging those items at the blacksmith will net you a huge amount of Rawhide. One strategy is to rotate bosses in a group and ask your teammates to drop unwanted gear for you to salvage. This way, you can farm large amounts of Rawhide efficiently.

3. Avoid Elite Monsters and Events

While you may see suggestions that Rawhide can be farmed from elite monsters or Legion Events, this method is inefficient. Elite monsters only drop 5–10 Rawhide on average, making them a poor source compared to boss farming.

4. Tribute of Titans

Another method to maximize Rawhide farming is using Tribute of Titans in a four-player group while farming Undercity. After consolidating boss materials, you can kill bosses for an hour and potentially farm 10,000 to 15,000 Rawhide per hour.

More Useful Tips for Iron Chunk & Rawhide Farming

  • Focus on Boss Rotations: Both Iron Chunks and Rawhide are most efficiently farmed through boss rotations. Whether you're solo or in a group, prioritize bosses that drop a high volume of items.

  • Salvage Everything: Always pick up and salvage all gear, especially when farming bosses. Salvaging yellow and Ancestral Uniques yields the most resources.

  • Group Farming: Teaming up with other players can drastically improve your efficiency. Coordinate boss rotations and share unwanted loot to maximize the number of items you can salvage.

A patch is expected to drop soon that should increase the rate at which these materials are generated, particularly from auto-salvaged items in Torment difficulties. This could make Nightmare Dungeons even more efficient as blue and yellow items will be auto-salvaged into materials directly in your inventory.
