6/25/2024 10:59:58 AM

Elden Ring DLC came out a couple of days ago and there's tons of new content to immerse yourself in, including 8 new weapon classes along with almost 100 new weapons total. There is one that caught our attention immediately, the Great Katanas. Today, we're going to talk about the top 3 Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree best Great Katanas in the DLC!

Elden Ring Best Great Katana - Top 3 Best Great Katanas in Shadow of the Erdtree

Great Katanas are bigger in size than regular Elden Ring katanas, granting more damage at the cost of slower attack speed. Great Katanas were added as a new weapon type in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion/DLC. There are currently 3 Great Katana weapons listed: Great Katana, Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana, and Rakshasa's Great Katana. Great Katana is the only infusible Great Katana, the other two are enchanted. However, they are both very very strong on their own. Next, we're breaking down the strength, ash of war, move set, and location for the best Elden Ring Great Katanas DLC.

1. Great Katana

It primarily scales its damage of the Dexterity, Arcane, and Strength attributes, meaning upgrading those stats will increase its damage output. It would work well for Dexterity-focused builds that level Dex, as that is its highest scaling stat. Leveling Arcane and Strength alongside Dex would also boost its damage. Going with Blood Affinity and Overhead Stance for Ash of War which is the Great Katana version of Unsheathe. You get a stance, a light attack version, and a heavy attack version.

Move Set

The move set is so well-rounded but sadly, this is the only infusible Great Katana. The normal Great Katana absolutely slaps, it hits hard, has a long reach, has a fantastic move set and you can infuse it. It's definitely one of the best Elden Ring DLC Great Katanas. The best Ash of War for Great Katana is Blood Tax, this combo can carry you through the DLC.

How To Get?

Head to the Abandoned Ailing Village, there is the Greatbridge North Site of Grace right next to it. From here, head west and you will find a ghost flame dragon in this lake. Under that dragon, you will find the Great Katana on a body along with the Ash of War Overhead Stance.

2. Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana

This is a somber weapon without any arcane scaling so there is no way to increase the blood buildup. But you do get C scaling in strength and C scaling in dex as well as a unique Ash of War called the Dragonwound Slash which is only one stage. This Ash of War along with any attacks from this weapon are going to be very effective against dragons, which does mean that it is a more situational PvE weapon. That's really not a bad thing because this weapon is one of the best Great Katanas in Elden Ring DLC that's going to to help you out a lot. Not to mention that both the sheath and the look of the blade are spectacular.

Moveset

Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana does have the exact same move set as the normal Great Katana so you get all the really strong pokes. The truth is you're not going to get a load of hyper armor on your attacks, whenever you're using a Great Katana however for how big they are and how hard they hit, they're decently fast. The Ash of War does have some solid hyper armor. It's incredibly strong for Dragon fights and the attacks on their own do really solid damage too. This is going to be the only weapon you use whenever fighting a dragon.

How To Get?

Make your way inside the cave that is called Dragon's Pit. To get there, you're going to want to head across the Ellac Greatbridge. Make your way around until you reach the cave.

3. Rakshasa's Great Katana

Rakshasa's Great Katana will become your favorite weapon in the entire game! With its unique Ash of War Weed Cutter, you get B scaling in dex and D in strength. This is a somber weapon, so you cannot increase the blood loss buildup. However, if you could, this Katana would end up being a serious problem so it's a good thing that you can't.

Moveset

The move set is the exact same as the other two katanas except for the heavy attack string which gives you more poke attacks. Absolutely incredible range on these. As long as you have FP and stamina, you can do the Ash of War infinitely. You get a load of hyper armor, it does a ton of damage, and it can work with successive attack buffs. On top of the unique heavy attacks in the unique Ash of War, this weapon also has a very unique property where while you are attacking, you are less likely to get staggered. If somebody attacks you however that is at the cost of taking more damage yourself. So if you are wielding this weapon, you are going to take more damage.

How To Get?

Rakshasa's Great Katana is one of Shadow of the Erdtree best Great Katanas that you are going to have to fight for and it's really not that easy. First, head to the Main Gate Plaza Site of Grace at the Shadow Keep.

Find this ladder, once you're down here, go west and into the doorway. Drop down this ladder as well, walk into this room, you will find a painting. If you turn to your right, there will be an elusory wall here. Move forward and you will find a coffin that you can rest in, move the coffin down the waterfall and you will end up at the Castle Watering Hole. Then keep on moving downstream until you get to the Recluses' River Downstream Site of Grace. Head back north to the River and eventually, you will come across a building. Go down the stairs and once you are in here, you are going to have to fight Rakshasa for the sword as well as a little something extra.
