WoW Dragonflight Race Abilities Explained & Playable Classes (Alliance & Horde)

Each race will offer you a unique set of abilities and will provide various advantages within the game that can be very impactful to your overall gameplay and determine whether or not you're going to have that slight 1% advantage over another player. With the new Expansion Drgaonfight,  this Race picking guide will break down all 24 of the playable races and highlight how they will affect your overall experience.

Dragonflight Alliance Races

The alliance has a lot more human-like races and is considered the “good” protagonist side:

Human

The human is the boring race that emulates what we are, The human spirit increases your secondary stats by 2% which so so powerful for any class, Diplomacy makes reputation gains increased by 10% which is clutch for farming rep gains, and Will to survive which removes any stun effect you have on you and the major reason why all players play human for PvP pretty much the counterpart to Orc.

Dwarf

The Dwarf one of the short races with a massive beard is incredibly useful for any class and any game, Might of the mountain increases critical strike by 2% meaning a higher chance for more healing and dmg when things crit, Frost resistance takes 1% less dmg from frost use against frost mages, explorer makes you find additional resources from the archaeology profession and work faster doing it. Stoneform one of the best racials in the game removes all poison, disease, curse, magic, and bleed effects and reduced physical dmg taken by 10%, when you got harmful things on you use this good for PvE and PvP. 

Night Elf

The night elf very unique abilities, Wisp spirit is what you transform when dead increasing your speed by 75%, Touch of elune increases your haste by 1% in the night and critical strike by 1% in the day, Quickness increases your chance to dodge by 2% and movement speed by 2%. Shadowmeld enables you to turn invisible stand still remove yourself out of combat and break on dmg or moving. Night elf is very powerful paired with stealth classes such as the rogue and feral druid. 

Gnome

The gnome is Potentially the shortest class in the game most annoying to try to hit, Nimble fingers increase haste by 1%, an Expansive mind makes your main resource increase by 5% very good for all classes, and engineering specialization makes your engineering skill increased by 15%, Arcane resistance reduces arcane dmg by 1%. The escape artist removes any root or slow effect off of you perfect for casters facing melee. We would play the gnome with any class that

needs ways to escape roots and slows.

Draenei

The Draenei is a tentacle humanoid space goat, Shadow resistance reduces shadow dmg by 1%, Heroic presence increases strength, Agility, and Intellect by an amount amazing racial for all classes gonna buff you by a good amount, and Gem cutting increases your jewel crafting profession skill by 10 doesn’t have a significant impact on the game and Gift of the Naaru is a huge heal spell that can save in dire situations, Draenei big heal can be useful for classes with a multiple heals but there not for anything else.

Worgen

The Worgen is a wolf humanoid and can go between wolf and human, Viciousness increases critical strike by 1% slightly giving you a greater chance for crit, Flayer is a passive that boosts your skinning profession skill by 15, Aberration reduces shadow and nature dmg by 1% helping you against magical dmg. Two forms enable you to switch between your human and worgen forms, Running wild allows you to use yourself as a ground mount, and Dark flight increases your movement speed by 40% this race is alright for all classes but there are better races the only perk is the sprint ability.

Void Elf

Void elf is a blood elf corrupted by the darkness, Preternatural calm makes your spell casts not to be delayed by dmg good for casters classes, ethereal connection reduces the cost of void storage and transmogrification by 50%, Entropic embrace makes your abilities have a chance to deal additional healing and dmg by 5% as shadowfrost. Chill of night reduces shadow dmg taken by 1% and Spatial rift will throw a rift forward that you can teleport to, a good gap closer or run away move. The void elves work well if you need extra mobility with certain classes but overall, the racials aren’t amazing.

Lightforged Draenei

The Lightforged Draenei is a golden space goat infused with light, Light’s reckoning will cause you to explode with light upon death healing allies and damaging enemies, holy resistance reduces holy dmg by 1% slight defense buff against priests and paladins, demon blade increases experience gains by 20% killing demons so when leveling go find demons. Forge of light summons a forge allowing you to blacksmithing things and boost your skill by 10, Light’s judgment hit’s a enemy with a massive beam that will dmg them decently. This race has very subpar racials that don’t

add anything significant to any class

Dark Iron Dwarf

The dark iron dwarf has fire hair and beards and loves volcanos which is why they live in one, mass production boost blacksmithing skill by 5 and crafting speed by 25%, Forged in flames reduces physical attacks by 1% nice defense buff, and dungeon diver makes you 4% faster indoors, Mole machine allows you to teleport to places on the continent you are on very useful for traveling, Fireblood removes all poison, disease, curse, magic and bleed effects and increases your primary stat like the regular dwarf one of the bets racials in the game for any class.

Kul Tiran

Kul Tiran is a bigger version of a human, Rime of the ancient mariner reduces frost and nature dmg by 1%, jack of all trades boosts skills in all professions by 5, child of the sea allows you to swim 10% faster and hold your breath for longer if you like swimming this be the race for you, brush it off increases versatility by 1% and when you take dmg to heal for 2% of that amount essentially you have a high amount of defensive comparison to other races, Haymaker will punch an enemy straight in the face knocking them back and down stunning them for 3 seconds. Kul Tiranis the knockback stun which can help any class get someone off of them but is not absolutely needed.

Mechagnome

A mechagnone is robot gnome with cybernetic implants, Mastercraft makes you function as any profession tool in the game, emergency failsafe when you fall below 20% you will heal for 15% of your health, and it useful tool to save you from bad situations when your low heath giving a buffer, combat analysis increases your primary stat by amount stacking 10 times while in combat meaning become slightly stronger a longer a fight goes on. Skeleton pinkie allows the opening of locks up to a certain level and hyper organic light originator summons clones of your self to confuse allies. The best thing Mechnomes have is an emergency failsafe which would assist any class in the game when they are under pressure.

Dragonflight Horde Races

The horde race is typically portrayed as the antagonist evil side in World of Warcraft: 

Orc

The Orc is technically an alien in WoW as it’s not from the main world you play on. Having 3 powerful abilities Hardiness is a passive that reduces stun durations by 20% this really powerful in PvP and gives you a Major advantage which is why most people play orcs. Command is passive that makes your pet do 1% more dmg if you play pet classes orc is a good option, and Blood Fury is an ability that increases your attack power which will slightly increase the amount of physical DMG you do, the orc does very well with melee classes and the hunter.

Undead

The Undead is a zombie that you can customize to look as dead as you want, one of the coolest races you can be, Touch of the grave is passive that gives all your attacks a chance to do extra shadow dmg and heal that back to you, giving you a slight dmg advantage and you breathe underwater so if you want go swimming undead is not a bad choice. Shadow resistance is a passive that reduces shadow dmg taken by 1% giving you more defense against shadow-based classes like the priest and warlock, Cannibalize is an ability where you can eat a humanoid or undead corpse to regenerate your health and mana over 10 seconds, this is a clutch ability in dire circumstances when your low on resources, Will of the Forsaken remove any Charm, Fear and sleep effects on two-minute cooldown on yourself this is very powerful in PvP a very situational move and does well with all types classes.

Tauren

The Tauren is a humanoid cow person that is one of the tallest races in wow, Endurance is a passive that increases your stamina giving you more health, Nature resistance reduces nature dmg taken by 1% which will help with defense slightly against classes like the druid and shaman. Cultivation is passive where your herbalism profession is increased by 15 and you harvest plants faster guess all Tauren are gardeners, Brawn is a passive that increases your critical strike by 2% this gives you a higher chance for your ability to double in value when it crits, War stomp is an AOE 2-second stun that stomps up to 5 people around you and the Taruens best ability at disrupting enemies and does well with all types of classes.

Troll

The troll is a hunchback creature always saying “how you doing mon” with the best laugh emote in the game, Da voodoo Shuffle is a passive that reduces movement impairing effect durations by 20% really good for all classes, Regeneration is where the troll passively regenerates health 10% faster this is very nice when questing with no healing abilities. Beast slaying is a passive where experience gains from killing beast are increased by 20% once again amazing for leveling, and the most powerful berserking a ability that increases your haste by 10% allowing you to hit and

cast faster and get in more abilities overall a major dmg boost for any class you play.

Blood Elf

Blood elf is one of the few human-like races on horde, arcane resistance reduces arcane DMG you take by 1% good for facing magical users, Arcane affinity increases your enchanting skill by 10 a nice boost to your profession skill. Arcane acuity increases your crit by 1% increasing your chance to double healing or dmg when it crits, Arcane torrent removes 1 beneficial effect from all enemies within 8 yds and gives you back your of your resource bar this isn’t the greatest ability it can remove very powerful effects of enemies you face does very well with magical classes

Goblin

The goblin might be the shortest race in the game and least common you’ll ever see in the game, Time is money is a passive that increases your haste by 1% allowing you to slightly do all your abilities faster, Better living through chemistry gives your extra skill with alchemy so goblins are alchemists, Best deals anywhere make all vendors give you discounts because you’re a money guru. Rocket barrage allows you to launch belt rockets at a target for decent dmg and Rocket jump will shoot you so far forward to get to enemies or run away avoiding things a race with good abilities that will impact your playstyle.

Nightborne

The nightbourne is a magical infused elf with a major affinity to it, Arcane resistance makes you take 1% less arcane dmg, Magical affinity increases all magical dmg done by 1% so play magical classes with this race, Ancient history increases inscription skill by 15. Cantrips allow you to conjure a grimoire giving you mail access incredibly useful, Arcane pulse will dmg nearby enemies and reduces their movement speed by 50% this very good for magical classes because the ability slows which will so run away from enemies.

Highmountain Tauren

The highmountain tauren is the tauren race but with antlers and face markings, Mountainner increases versatility by 1% this will slightly increase your dmg, healing and defense, Pride of ironhorn increases your mining skill by 15 and allows faster mining so run that profession if your this race, Rugged tenacity reduces dmg taken by a certain amount so more defense. Want Not gives you a extra chance to loot extra meat and fish good for the cooking and fishing professions. Bull Rush will make you charge forward knocking down enemies useful for getting to people and running away and does very well with melee classes as a gap closer.

Mag'har

The Mag’har orc is the variant of the orc race, Sympathetic vigor increases a pet’s health by 10% good for pet classes like the hunter, warlock death knight, Savage blood reduces the duration of poisons, diseases, and curses by 10% this is one of the best racials in the game for both PvP and PvE because there's a lot of harmful affects you can get on yourself and this reduction on them is incredible, Open skies increases mounted speed by 10% making you get to places faster.

Ancestral call buffs randomly one of your stats for a period of time the randomness of this isn’t great but still a decent ability. 

Zandalari

Zandalari troll has multiple ways to buff themselves and are one of the best races to play, City of gold is a passive that increases gold earned by creatures by 2% more money for you, Embrace of the loa allows you to pick one of six shrines to gain a unique powerful buff on a 5-day cooldown that I’ll put up on the screen you will find these shrines all around Zandalari zone so when you make this character make sure to pick the one you want. Regenerating will restore 100% of your health over 6 seconds a powerful heal that is broken by dmg, Pterrordax swoop summons a dinosaur that you'll ride that you will glide down with for two minutes.

Vulpera

Vulpera is a race for furriers, Nose for trouble a passive when you take dmg for the first time it will be reduced by 5% of your maximum health, Fire resistance reduces fire dmg by 1% good for facing mages and warlocks, Alpaca saddlebags increases your backpack size by 8 slots so you can hold extra stuff. Bag of trick will pull out one of 5 abilities you can choose between with your Rummage your bag skill, out of these 5 abilities two you start with are Corrosive vial and the healing vial the other 3 you get from specific locations in the world that will heal or do dmg they all do that same amount so you can just stick with the baseline two you get. Make camp allows you to set your location in an outdoor spot and then use the ability to return to camp to go to that spot Vulpera has a lot of useful abilities good for all classes.

Pandaren

The Pandaren is a panda race you can play that is neutral being able to join either side of horde or alliance, Inner peace makes you gain twice the rested exp which you can gain from being in rested areas for a long time, Gourmand increases your cooking profession skill by 15 so you can be a good cook, Epicurean is passive where well-fed food buffs are increased by 100% so eat food on this race to buff your stats. Bouncy is a passive where you take half of the fall dmg clutch in some situations and Quaking Palm is a melee incapacitate stopping the target for 4 seconds breaks on dmg. The Pandaren offers a decent set of racials that can positively impact your gameplay

Dracthyr 

The Dracthyr is the new dragon race coming in the new expansion with so many racials on its toolkit, Glide allows to fall slowly in the air and move fast downwards, and Soar allows you to shoot in the air and fly around using momentum up and down, as well Surge forward enabling you to shoot forward and skyward ascent fly’s you upwards both on 5-minute cooldowns you can pretty much fly with this race.

Tail Swipe lashes your tail knocking enemies up, Wing buffer flaps your wings knocking enemies in front and Visage enables you to switch from a Dragon to a humanoid form where out-of-combat regeneration is increased to 2% health every second. Your passives are awakened increases your mastery by a low percentage good buff, Discerning eye increases your perception finding profession material further away and rare items more often and Familiar skies allow you to fly 20% faster on continents you fully explored.
