Diablo 4 Arcana Spells Drop Rate and How to Get (Season 9)

7/3/2025 9:40:25 AM

Arcana is one of the must-have components to customize Horadric Spells in Diablo 4 Season 9. Although it is very rare, many players find that it almost never drops, why is that? Today, we'll talk about why Diablo 4 Arcana spells are not dropping and the best way to farm Arcana in D4 S9.

Diablo 4 Arcana Spells Guide

In Diablo IV Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim, Arcana are special effects that you add to your custom Horadric Spells. Arcana acts as extra powers or bonuses that make your spells stronger or give them cool new abilities. When you create a Horadric Spell, you pick a Catalyst (the main spell shape), an Infusion (the elemental damage type), and then you add three Arcana to add special buffs or effects. Arcana spells come in three levels of rarity: Magic, Rare, and Legendary. These Arcana are very important because they can change how your spell works and help you fight monsters in new and exciting ways. You can find Arcana by exploring Nightmare Dungeons and Horadric Strongrooms, but they are quite rare.

Diablo 4 Arcana Spells Drop Rate and Why Arcana Is Not Dropping?

The estimated drop rate of Horadric Arcana is around 1% to 3% per loot drop from sources like Horadric Strongrooms, Nightmare Dungeons, or other high-tier endgame content. This means that, on average, you might see an Arcana Spell drop about once every 30 to 100 chests or loot drops, depending on RNG. The drop chance can be influenced by game difficulty (higher Torment levels improve drop quality and quantity), luck-related stats or buffs, and event bonuses during special seasons or updates. Lots of players report that Arcana spells are rare but not ultra-rare. You do get them regularly after farming many runs, but they are far less common than regular legendary or unique items.

The main reason Diablo 4 Arcana spells are not dropping normally in the game now is because of very low drop rates and ongoing bugs affecting the loot system. Players have reported farming many Nightmare Dungeons and Horadric Strongrooms with little to no Arcana drops, even when completing runs at full attunement. Some believe this is caused by a bug or oversight in the game’s code where seasonal activities like Strongrooms are not correctly registering or rewarding Arcana as intended. Additionally, Arcana drops look like normal blue or yellow gear and do not auto-pickup, so many players might miss them if they don’t pick up all items carefully from chests. Blizzard has acknowledged issues not only with Arcana but also with Horadric Phials and Nightmare Sigils dropping at much lower rates than planned, and they’ve promised hotfixes to fix these problems soon.

How to Get Arcana Spell Drops in Diablo 4 Season 9?

1. Make a New Character
Start by creating a brand new character in the game. Make sure to choose the same class as your main character. For example, if your main character is a Sorcerer, create another Sorcerer. Give this new character a simple name, so you can remember that it’s for farming.

2. Level Up to 60 (But Don’t Start the Story Yet)
Log in to your new character and level them up to level 60. You can do this however you like, by playing normally, getting help from friends, or using special items called Whisperer Caches that give you experience points. The important part is to reach level 60 without starting the seasonal quest line yet.

3. Transfer Your Gear
Next, log back into your main character and put all your best gear into the stash, which is the shared storage that all your characters can use. Then, log back into your new character and equip all the gear you just put in the stash.

4. Set Up Your New Character
Now, set up your new character by choosing the right skills, putting points into paragon points, and selecting your seasonal powers. Your new character will have the same seasonal powers that any of your other characters have unlocked.

5. Unlock the Hardest Difficulty You Can
Go to the Pits and complete level 20 to unlock Torment 1 difficulty. If you are strong enough, you can unlock even higher Torment levels like Torment 4. Remember, the higher the difficulty you unlock and play on, the better the rewards you will get from farming.

6. Start the Seasonal Quest Line and Go to the Horadric Strongrooms

Switch your game difficulty to the highest Torment level you unlocked. Then, start the seasonal quest line and play through it until you reach the quest called “The Embers Yet Smolder.” This quest will take you into a dungeon that has a special area called the Horadric Strongroom.

7. Complete the Strongroom and Pick Up Loot (But Don’t Take the Quest Item)
Finish the Strongroom just like normal. Kill the boss at the end and open the chest to get your rewards. You can pick up every item you find except for the Blood Relic quest item. Leave that relic on the ground because picking it up will move your quest forward, and you won’t be able to come back to the farm again.

8. Log out and Repeat
After you have looted everything you want (except the Blood Relic), log out of the game. When you log back in, you will start in town. From there, go back to the dungeon and enter the same Horadric Strongroom again. Then, repeat the process: kill the boss, open the chest, loot the items, leave the Blood Relic, and log out again.

9. Keep Doing This to Get Lots of Arcana Spells and More
Keep repeating this cycle of looting and logging out as many times as you want to get tons of Arcana Spells, legendary gear, ancestral items, and other awesome loot. This trick lets you farm the Horadric Strongrooms forever without needing special dungeon keys.
