Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 2.4 has introduced 7 new runewords for Ladder Season 1, these are the first time they release new runewords in over 10 years. Now, let’s take a look at all of the new D2R 2.4 Ladder runewords, with the runes, bonus, and character/build suited.
When to Use the New D2R 2.4 Ladder Runewords?
When you can use these D2R ladder runewords? These runewords start to be available with the launch of Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 1 and they are Ladder-only items. This means you will only be able to create these runewords during the first Ladder Season, and not be able to create them in single-player or non-ladder characters until the conclusion of Season 1. After that, you can create them in the non-ladder and single-player game and you still have all runewords that you have created.

1. Unbending Will (FalIoIthEldElHel)
Unbending Will can be made in a 6-socket sword using the runes Fal + Io + Ith + Eld + El + Hel. Looking at the stats, 18 chance to cast level 18 taunt on striking, actually reduces the attack rating and damage of the enemy. Then we've got +3 to Barbarian combat skills, 20% increased attack speed, but this isn't quite enough to hit the maximum whirlwind breakpoint, we've got 300% enhanced damage, which is a really solid bonus to damage, and make it in line with some of the other lower-tier endgame runewords. Then we got some boost to maximum damage, which is great. This runeword would be a really solid weapon for Act 5 mercenary in Diablo 2, the mercenaries are barbarians, they are going to go out there with their giant sword and they are going to start whacking enemies and casting taunt all the time. They can do solid damage and keep enemies off you, so you are free to cast and kill the enemies. Meanwhile, tanut is going to lower their damage to improve the survivability of your mercenary. Besides the Act 5 Merc, Unbending Will could also be a good Barbarian weapon used on a frenzy or concentrate or berserk or barb.
2. Mist (ChamShaelGulThulIth)
The Mist runeword can be made in a five socket bow, which does have several viable options to make this rune word, you'll need a Cham, Shael, Gul, Thul, and Ith. Cham is one of those underutilized high runes and this runeword comes with a level 9 concentration aura which is really awesome, so level 9 concentration will give you 180 percent extra damage as well as 20 chances to make your attack uninterruptible. How to use this in the Ladder season? This is probably not as good as Faith, it is still a solid viable endgame bow option for a bowazon, but this one might be better for an Act 1 mercenary, the level 9 concentration aura could be a huge boost to the damage of your character, throw this on Act one merc, let it go out there pierce attack, freezing targets, while still granting you that huge damage bonus from the concentration aura that is powerful for a ton of D2R ladder builds.
3. Flickering Flame (NefPulVex)
Flickering Flame runeword can be made in three socket helms using the Nef, Pul, and Vex Runes, when considering helms, there are some class-specific helms out there and this one might be a really solid fit for a druid pelt. Where might you want to use this Ladder runeword? One of the best uses of it would be in a fire druid build, if you combine these bonuses with what you might actually be able to get for plus two skills with a solid druid pelt, this could be amazing helmet. It could also be a really solid option for a fire Trapsin, but it may just not be as good all-around as a shako, which gets you two to all skills, it gets you a huge bonus to life a huge bonus to mana, you are getting some mana here but not probably quite as much as a shako, it also has really solid damage reduction not to mention the huge magic find bonus, but for a fire build, this is probably a really solid option.
4. Wisdom (PulIthEld)
Wisdom is also a D2R 2.4 runeword for a three socket helm, similar to what we just looked at with Flickering Flame and this rune word calls for the Pul, Ith, and Eld runes, all are pretty attainable runes. With Pul being the rarest of all them and this looks to be a helm really targeted for amazon, with the first bonus here the plus 33 piercing attack, this is really nice to get on a helm, depending on what your gear choices are and how you want to build out your character. We've got a 20 percent bonus to attack rating which is a solid boost, we've got mana stolen per hit, a little bit of enhanced defense, a little boost energy, slower stamina drain, which is irrelevant, then cannot be frozen always love to see that helm is a decent slot to get that on and then plus five mana after each kill and 15 damage taken goes to mana. The bonus that will decide whether or not you actually want to use this helm is going to be that piercing bonus, given all the bonuses, this might be a solid amazon leveling helm, but it may be challenging to get a Pul rune at a time.
5. Plague (ChamShaelUm)
Plague is designed for a three socket sword using a Cham, Shael, and Um rune. Actually, Plague runeword has been in the game files for a very long time and was not activated until the Patch 2.4. We've got a 20% chance to cast level 12 lower resist when struck, lower resist is a really solid curse, the only problem is 20, you don't want to get struck, you are not going to get hit that many times, this is kind of confusion about its use. It'd be something that you might want to put on a mercenary when you're going to use a poison javazon or some other poison damage skill build, but this could be a whole lot more valuable if that first bonus over there if that lower resist bonus was actually upon striking instead of on being struck, that would really change the value of this item.
6. Pattern (TalOrtThul)
Pattern was also in the game files from years ago and this is designed for a three socket claw, so this is an assassin only item and requires the runes Tal, Ort, and Thul, so these are very low runes and this is designed for a leveling character, but you have to be high enough level to get claws that are gonna have three open sockets. 30% faster block rate could actually be a decent defensive option for weapon block, you could wield these and have 60 faster block rate to hit a really high block speed breakpoint. Then we have 68 enhanced damage, a little bit of boost for your martial artist, we also get a 10% bonus to attack rating, and then 3 types of elemental damage, fire, lightning, and cold. That's decent for crowd control and some damage mitigation, we do have some poison damage and a decent boost to strength and dexterity, that's solid for a low to mid-level D2 item, and we have 15 to all resistance, that's great if you are looking for resistances. So, Pattern is a decent D2R Ladder runeword for leveling as an assassin and it is not an endgame item.
7. Obsession (ZodIstLemLumIoNef)
Obsession is for a six socket staff which means that it has to be done in a war staff or the exceptional elite version of that, it contains a lot of really good stats and it might be a good option for sorceresses when the base contains good skill bonuses. To make this runeword in D2R 2.4 ladder, you need Zod, Ist, Lem, Lum, Io, and Nef runes, and the most challenging one to get is Zod. We have a 24% chance to cast level 10 weaken when struck, this will lower your enemy's damage by 33, which is a solid reduction, but it only triggers when you are struck. Then we have +4 to all skills, this sounds awesome, but this is a two-handed weapon, it's going to take the place of a one-handed weapon and a shield, when you start the Ladder with a Sorceress character, this would be replacing The Oculus or HotO and a Spirit shield. The use of Obsession would be depending on what bonus skills you get on your base.
