A lot of people enjoy playing the 4231 formations, but maybe you can't get it to work for you in games. this is why we're bringing out this tutorial for you, these are very good instructions for scoring goals in the 4231, you won’t have the problem of having a striker isolated up the front. it's also not too defensive of a formation. it's very stable, attacking, but also very good in defense.
Defense
Defensive Style Press After Possession Loss
Width 4
Depth 7
Offense
Offensive Style Balanced
Width 5
Players In Box 6
Corners 3
Free Kicks 1
*defensive style
The defensive style we have is not balanced, we're not having balanced on a 4231 we’ll have press after possession loss in the 4231. the reason why this works is that when you're pinning your opponent in your half with the press after possession loss, almost every single pass is marked, you got the one striker pressing the man on the ball. the CAM's picking up their CDM, you've got your left attacking mid your right attacking mid, staying out wide to cover the wide passes, then your CDM's will also be pushing up as your full-backs.
*defensive width
The defensive width leaves it on four. the reason being we need to be defending the middle area as much as possible this year, forcing people out wide, that's where you concede the least amount of goals.
*defensive depth
The depth has it on seven. seven on depth is a way forward, it means that the backline will be offside trapping a lot, in and around the penalty box. which makes it a lot harder for the opponent to get in behind.
*offensive style
The offensive style on balanced. we don't recommend fast build-up in the 4231, it becomes way too hard to keep the possession. one of the good things about the 4231 is that you're able to control the game, dictate the tempo a lot more. balance emphasizes the dictation of play, you deciding how fast or how slow the game goes.
*offensive width
The offensive style on five, the balance in this formation should be attacking out wide & attacking down the middle. a lot of goals won't come from out wide, but chances will come from out wide, also when you have runners out wide, it’ll create space for the runners in the middle.
*players in the box, corners, & free kicks
Put players in the box to six, you have one striker in this formation and two DMs. it naturally is quite a defensive formation. all this means is that you'll have an extra player in the box, it'll help you a lot scoring goals in this formation. corners are on three, free kicks on one.
Instructions: The instructions are to stay central, stay forward on the striker. you want your striker in your opponent's penalty box, you don't want them drifting out wide. because if they drift out wide then who's pick up the central position? so make sure you have stay central on your striker. you have to stay forward on them because you want to be pressing them against your opponent's backline as much as possible. this is help with the press after possession loss too, which means that they're pressing the man on the ball a lot more often. stay forward on the middle CAM. this is key, if you have a balance on this CAM, they're dropping back as a third DM. when the CAM isn’t on stay forward, they drop way too deep. your LAM will be on getting into the box across, balance on everything else. you don't touch him and it's the same for the RAM.
