Leveling in Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt has changed. With new systems, support gems, and mechanics introduced in patch 0.2.0, the campaign experience - from character creation to reaching the end of Act 3 - requires a different approach. This guide focuses specifically on how to level to 100 quickly and efficiently in the new league environment.
When beginning your journey, you have two choices:
Use an existing character in a standard league, with access to your stash and resources.
Start fresh in the new league, where everything resets—no stash, no gear, no currency. This offers a clean slate and a fresh economy.
Both are valid, but for the full leveling experience, starting fresh helps you adapt to the new systems from the ground up.
The introduction of 100 new support gems is the cornerstone of fast leveling in 0.2.0. These gems allow for flexible builds and open up creative combinations, even in early acts. Whether you're scaling projectiles, spells, or melee, these options ensure your character can deal with packs and bosses efficiently.
Equip skills with support gems that:
Increase AoE or projectile count
Boost flat damage types (fire, lightning, cold)
Improve utility and survivability
Early experimentation can save time later on.
Key tips for Act 1 leveling:
Use a reliable starting skill (e.g. Cascade or Lightning Rod) and switch as soon as you have appropriate gear.
Farm the first few zones to build up scrolls, orbs, and gold to buy essential items.
Aim to reach level 5 before pushing deeper into the act.
Prioritize armor with life and resistances. Even one good piece early on can make a big difference.
Zone strategy:
Know the locations of key quest items and objectives.
Focus on killing blue and rare packs for bonus XP and better loot.
Take advantage of early vendor inventories. Check for flasks, skill gems, and rings with resistances.
The goal is to hit level 12–14 by the time you face the final boss of the act.
Starting in Grillwood, you’ll encounter Asarian Wisps. These roaming spirits:
Empower monsters they pass through.
Possess rare or unique enemies, creating tougher encounters.
Offer rune-based rewards when defeated.
These encounters can slow you down slightly, but the rewards are often worth it:
Offensive and defensive rune effects
Early power spikes through unique modifiers
Added XP density
If your build can handle them, chasing Wisps is worth the time investment.
Priorities for Act 2:
Reach level 20–22 before attempting your first ascendancy trial.
Begin scaling your damage and preparing for area transitions.
Ensure you're reaching capable resistance levels, especially for lightning and fire.
Explore side areas to:
Farm XP and currency
Complete quests that give passive points
Unlock new skill gems and gear upgrades
Efficient farming:
Use zones with dense monster layouts.
Focus on speed-clearing and identifying loot only when necessary.
Take advantage of vendor item refreshes at every level.
You should aim to reach level 30 before the end of Act 2 for smoother boss fights.
By Act 3, damage scaling slows down and survivability becomes the focus.
What to do:
Build your resistances to handle tougher enemies.
Upgrade to high-tier flasks, especially mana and life.
Use a farming zone at the start of Act 3 to reach level 32 quickly if needed.
Boss preparation:
Learn boss mechanics. Even with low resistances, knowledge of patterns can prevent deaths.
Avoid rushing—it's better to spend a few more minutes farming than to repeat a boss.
