Welcome, Exiles! Today, we're talking about the Path of Exile 2 Roadmap for 2025, covering expected patch 0.1.2, new classes, the new league season, and the major content updates schedule.
With Path of Exile 2 well into Early Access, players are eager to see what Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has planned for 2025. The game has already proven itself to be a major success, but there’s still a long way to go before its full release. The Early Access phase has been running for about eight weeks, making this the perfect time to evaluate potential timelines for major updates, new seasons, economy resets, and new content.
The PoE 2 roadmap 2025 suggests an Early Access period lasting approximately six months, with significant updates planned throughout. Below we'll outline more details for the Path of Exile roadmap 2025:
Historically, Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has followed a 13-week content cycle in Path of Exile 1, alternating between small and major updates. This pattern is likely to continue in Path of Exile 2, considering the developers have shifted most of their focus to the new game.
Here's a look at recent patch releases:
Path of Exile 2 Early Access Release → December 6, 2024
Patch 0.1.1 → January 17, 2025 (6 Weeks After The Release Of 0.1.0, On Friday Before the Weekend)
PoE 2 Update Timeline Prediction
Short-Term (March–April 2025)
Patch 0.2.0 is expected to be a significant update, including new content, balance updates, and possibly a league reset. Additional quality of life changes and crash fixes will continue to be introduced. New character builds and skill adjustments could be tested before the next league.
Mid-Term (April–August 2025)
A new league is expected around April or May, following the 4-month league cycle from PoE 1. Potential introduction of new classes and weapons to expand playstyle diversity. Ongoing balancing of endgame content, mapping, and itemization.
Long-Term (August–December 2025)
Further endgame expansions, including additional bosses, league mechanics, and mapping improvements. Final polish and content additions before the full release of Path of Exile 2.
UPDATE! We finally got some official news about when the next patch will be released in the "Announcing The First Race Event" thread posted by GGG on February 19, 2025. In the post, GGG said "While the team is working hard on the 0.2.0 content update, which we expect to release in approximately one month, we'll be running a series of races in Path of Exile 2 ..." With that said, Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.2.0 is expected to be released at the end of March or early April 2025.
Expected PoE 2 Patch 0.2.0 Release Timeline:
Official PoE 0.2.0 announcement - February/March 2025
Patch 0.2.0 release date - End of March or Early April 2025
Possible fallback release - April 2025
Regardless of the exact date, Patch 0.2.0 will mark a major milestone, introducing new mechanics, balance changes, and fresh content.
What to Expect in Patch 0.2.0:
GGG has stated that Path of Exile 2’s content will double by the end of Early Access, meaning new classes, acts, and gameplay mechanics will arrive over time. Based on developer comments, here are the possible additions in Patch 0.2:
1. New Classes Release
Currently, only six out of twelve planned classes are available. The Druid (Jewel Shapeshifter) and Huntress were showcased in previous gameplay footage and are likely candidates for release.
Additionally, players have speculated about whether third Ascendancies will be introduced. While this is expected closer to full release, Patch 0.2 may introduce new classes with expanded playstyles.
2. League Reset and Economy Overhaul
With a new league, the in-game economy will reset, offering a fresh start for all players. This ensures a stable trading environment and encourages experimentation with different builds.
3. Additional Acts
Currently, Acts 1-3 are available. The developers have hinted at expanding the game’s story, meaning Act 4 (or possibly Acts 4-5 together) could be introduced.
4. Gameplay & Balance Changes
Improved Atlas Progression: Developers have mentioned making it easier to progress through maps, particularly for new players.
Map Tab Implementation: A highly requested feature for better inventory management.
Minion & Spectre Improvements: Adjustments to summoner mechanics to make them more versatile.
General Build Balancing: Expect adjustments to underperforming skills and items.
Bug Fixes & Quality of Life Upgrades: Stability improvements, crash fixes, and UI refinements.
GGG has not yet launched a season-based League in PoE 2, but it seems likely that the first League will arrive in the mid of 2025.
Possible PoE 2 New League Release Timeline:
Path of Exile leagues typically follow a 4-month cycle, with major league releases in April, August, and December. Since the first league of Path of Exile 2 started in December 2024, the next league should align with the April 2025 timeframe. The delays in Path of Exile 1's patch schedule suggest that resources are being allocated to Path of Exile 2, reinforcing the likelihood of an April/May 2025 league launch.
Potential League Content
New league-specific mechanics that introduce fresh gameplay elements.
Economy reset, which will refresh trade and item demand.
New skill gems and support mechanics to encourage different builds.
Further balance adjustments to improve overall gameplay.
Leagues in PoE 1 typically last a few months, introducing fresh challenges, new mechanics, and economy resets. PoE 2’s first League will likely follow this model, giving players a new way to experience the game.
Path of Exile 2 is expected to fully launch between June and December 2025, depending on the progress made during Early Access.
Full Release Expectations:
Complete 12-class system (currently only 6 are available).
All acts fully implemented, completing the campaign.
Polished endgame with refined mapping and boss encounters.
Finalized balance for skills, items, and economy.
New league launch alongside the full release.
The developers have committed to doubling the game’s content by the time it leaves Early Access, meaning significant additions are still to come.
GGG recently released an announcement addressing their current focus and development plans. Here’s an excerpt from their official statement:
"We are now 10 weeks into Path of Exile 2’s Early Access, and what a wild ride it has been. This was our largest launch ever and it exceeded our expectations. It's time to take a look at what we've done so far, what remains to be solved, and what we're doing next."
They mentioned that despite the short time since launch, they have already released eight patches and 31 hotfixes. The post also highlights key areas of focus moving forward, including quality of life (QoL) improvements, endgame progression, itemization adjustments, and balance changes.
1. Quality-of-Life (QoL) Improvements
GGG has been working on streamlining the overall gameplay experience. Some changes already implemented include:
Checkpoints & Overrides – Improved checkpoint system and item socket overrides.
Respec Cost Reduction – Making character respecs more affordable.
Dodge Roll Fixes – Reducing instances where dodge rolls get players stuck.
QoL improvements might seem like minor changes, but these small frustrations can be game-breaking for players grinding long hours. Many players quit due to tedious mechanics, so these improvements remain a top priority.
2. Improving the Endgame & Mapping Experience
GGG acknowledged that the endgame is one of the hardest areas to test in an online game. Since many players only reach the endgame after extensive playtime, valuable feedback only started rolling in after launch.
Key Endgame Adjustments So Far:
Improved rewards from rare monsters.
Reduced early endgame difficulty.
Increased currency drops while nerfing one-shot mechanics.
Adjusted map balance & boss difficulty.
Added checkpoints for traveling in maps.
Enhanced strongbox mechanics.
GGG also mentioned that they initially undershot the number of bosses in the endgame, which has now been improved. However, they admitted that there’s still a lot more to do in refining endgame progression.
3. Itemization Improvements
GGG has started reworking existing unique items, buffing many underwhelming ones. However, they acknowledged that Path of Exile 2 still lacks build-defining uniques—items that truly shift how a build functions.
While some uniques will always be situational, many players feel that a large portion of uniques are underwhelming. GGG plans to address this in upcoming updates.
4. Fixing Balance Outliers
Balancing is always a challenge in ARPGs, and GGG admits that some skills and mechanics are either too strong or too weak.
Balance Adjustments So Far:
Adjusted monster, box, and boss difficulty to reduce one-shot deaths.
Improved telegraphing for enemy attacks.
Increased minimum guaranteed item drops.
GGG also stated that they hesitated to nerf overpowered skills too aggressively in Early Access due to player backlash. However, they will continue to adjust extreme outliers, such as:
Tempest Bell Loop
Vine Arrows
Other unintended broken interactions
Future major balance updates will likely coincide with economy resets (similar to the league system in Path of Exile 1).
5. Fixing Crashes & Performance Issues
GGG acknowledged several major crash and performance issues, particularly:
Windows 11 24H2 Update Freeze – While they don’t yet know the exact cause, they have developed a temporary workaround.
NVIDIA Driver Issues – They are working with NVIDIA to resolve persistent problems.
GGG has reallocated most of its Path of Exile 1 development team to focus on Path of Exile 2, meaning updates may arrive quicker than expected. Recently, the game director, Jonathan Rogers, apologized for delays in the Path of Exile 1 3.26 update, confirming that all resources are currently dedicated to Path of Exile 2. This suggests that Patch 0.2 is on track for an early March release.
With three months of Early Access already underway, this update is expected to set the stage for the game's official launch in mid-2025 (likely May-June).
