How to do wave dash in Rocket League? If you are looking for detailed tutorial and useful tips on perform pros wave dashing in gaming, this guide can help you out!
Wave dashing is an essential skill for quick and efficient movement and recoveries everywhere on the field, it's one of the most used mechanics at the higher levels. You can wave dash on the walls and the ceiling too.
Now there's a couple advantages to doing wave dashes: one of which is that a wave dash is interruptable, you can choose not to use it or even choose to use a flip at the last second, you can even choose which direction you're wave dashing in a split second. There's a couple things you can do to help execute this.
Wavedashing is actually really simple once you understand one thing. For wave dashes to be successful, all you need to do is make sure that immediately after your flip, all four of your wheels will touch the ground or whatever surface you're trying to wave dash on.
Let's start with a basic forward wave, this is most often used to gain speed when you're low on . There are two ways to wave dash - with or without using :
1. To Do Wavedash Without
Step 1 - Jump and tilt back, this is so that when we fall back down our back wheels can touch the ground before our front wheels.
Step 2 - Once your back wheels touch the ground or get very close to it do a front flip, this should forcibly push the front end of your nose down, and because your back wheels are already on the ground.
Step 3 - As soon as your front wheels touch the ground, all four of your wheels have touched the surface and the animation for your flip gets cancelled but you still gain the speed that a normal flip would give you.
2. To Do Wavedash With
Step 1 - Doing this with is the same thing, jump instead of tilting back right away
Step 2- Tilt forward right away so that we can just a little bit. This is going to push our car back down to the ground a little bit faster so that we can do our wave dash sooner.
Step 3 - After you've ed down a little, now we have to quickly tilt back before we touch the ground so that our back wheels touch the ground first and then we can do the front flip to land our front wheels on the ground.
There are more ways to wave dash than just forward, in fact you can wave dash in any direction and flip. The only requirement is that all four wheels touch the ground immediately after you press your flip this, means we can wavedash backwards, sideways, and diagonally. The only difference with wavedashes that incorporate any kind of sideways movement is that we have to hold power slide during our landing to keep all of the momentum we get from the flip in that direction. If you don't hold power slide and try to wavedash sideways, all the momentum from the flip we can absorb, and you'll land in a jerking forward or backwards motion rather than a smooth and controlled wavedash to the side.
To Do Sideways Wave Dash
For a sideways wavedash, it's the same concept as forward but sideways. Jump and tilt your car to one side left or right this, lets one of our cars sides reach the ground first, and once that side reaches the ground, we're going to flip in the opposite direction from the way that we tilt it. So if we tilt left, we're going to flip right; if we tilt right we're going to flip left, make sure that you're holding your power slide button during the landing to conserve as much momentum from the flip as possible and again that's it.
To Do Diagonal Wave Dash
The same thing applies for diagonal wavedashing. Tilt our car a 180 degrees opposite of the direction, that we're going to flip, so we're going to tilt back right for a front left flip or back left for a front right flip. The only difference is that with a diagonal flip, only one back wheel in the corner of your car that you tilted to needs to touch the ground before flipping, because the other three will be pushed into the ground by your diagonal flip. Again make sure that you're holding power slide for this one as well as it does include a sideways movement.
If you want to perform the wave dash like pros players, try to practice following the below steps:
1. To start do a regular wavedash to the side, hold your power side and arrow button the whole time.
2. But instead of just pressing your dodge once and holding the power slide to keep momentum, double tap your dodge button when you flip, so that right after you flip and land you immediately jump again.
3. Now use your air roll to manipulate the tilt of your car opposite of the direction you're going, so you can line up another wavedash.
4. Double tap your flip button again while holding the direction you want to wavedash and repeat, this lets you change more pro wavedashes together to increase speed quicker with little to no .
5. Or you can use variations of it to wave dash to gain momentum for a half flip right after the wave dash.
Here we are going to give you two of the most common in-game scenarios in which wave dashing is the strat:
1. The first one is in transitioning from the wall to the ground. Now if you're low-level lobbies you're probably used to seeing people just drive off the wall through all the way through the corner, but there's a problem you lose a lot of time in this driving period in that transition, whereas if you go from the wall and straight wave dash to the ground you can be super sonic without using any . Now some pro tips for executing this is having your arrow and powerslide bound to L1 that way you can easily jump air roll and slap the ground in a diagonal wave dash, and you're going to conserve a lot of if you can master this. Because without powersline, you lose momentum in the diagonal wave dash because you're going sideways, aerial and power side same button for expert wave dashing.
2. The second most common scenario is the in and out recovery scenario. So say you just put a shot on net and your momentum is carrying you through the net here, but the shot is blocked for whatever reason probably because you're trash. You have all this unused momentum going internet. Get in the habit of driving in and out of the net and wave dashing, and this is just a good in-game habit to get used to. But the reality of the situation is when you put a shot on net, most of the times you're committing and using all of your so going through this in and out strategy, conserves a lot of and you can get super sonic without using any because you're not wasting your momentum you're going through the net. Now it's important to note that if you make a shot on net and you don't have a lot of momentum, it's just as fast to just turn around and start flipping if not faster. And this drill is actually really helpful for just learning the wave dash because you've got a little bit more time.
That's about it for wave dashes, we can't really tell you all the different places you should use them or not, because this game is so situational but hopefully you understand how they work now, so you can go practice them and find all the different places you can use them. You may can use them for recoveries, use wavedash during dribbles, it adds a lot of mind game elements to your dribbles where you can quickly change or fake a direction on your hip. But they can be used in many different scenarios, so make sure you try everything out and be as creative as you like.
