Diablo 2 Resurrected Elite Armor Base Defense Rating Quick Reference

When looking for good D2R armor for a runeword, you should ideally turn to the elite version. Each item in Diablo 2 Resurrected is in fact available in three ranks: normal, exceptional, and elite. The defense value climbs gradually and can also climb even higher with an ethereal item. Here are two tables that allow you to quickly know what defense value you can expect depending on the type of armor, the ethereal version included.

Here are the base defense values for the different armor types in Diablo 2 Resurrected:

Quilted Armor: 13-15 defense

Leather Armor: 25-35 defense

Hard Leather Armor: 55-65 defense

Studded Leather Armor: 70-80 defense

Ring Mail Armor: 90-100 defense

Scale Mail Armor: 115-140 defense

Chain Mail Armor: 150-160 defense

Splint Mail Armor: 190-220 defense

Plate Mail Armor: 260-300 defense

Field Plate Armor: 370-420 defense

Gothic Plate Armor: 580-650 defense

Shields also provide defense based on their base type, with higher tier shields offering more defense. Some examples:

Buckler: 10-15 defense

Small Shield: 20-30 defense

Large Shield: 45-55 defense

Kite Shield: 95-115 defense

Tower Shield: 165-180 defense

The base defense range depends on the item's quality level. Higher quality tiers like Sacred/Elite/Unique provide more base defense than lower tiers. The values above are for Normal quality armor. Defense can be further boosted by +defense affixes on the armor/shield.
