Each class has its unique playstyle, abilities, and specializations, which can be customized as you level up and progress through the game. In this article, we are going to be ranking each class in Diablo IV, considering the mobility, survivability, clearing ability, class-specific mechanic, and crowd control ability to help you decide if this is the class you want to play in Server Slam/D4 release.

Diablo 4 Classes & Builds Tier List & Rankings - Best Classes in D4 Server Slam Start

1. D4 Necromancer for Server Slam Start (S-Tier)

The Diablo 4 Server Slam Necromancer is a powerful and versatile class that can summon hordes of undead minions to fight alongside them.

Mobility ★:

Compared to some other classes in Diablo 4, Necromancers may not have the same level of mobility. The Reaper's Pursuit skill does provide a 15% movement speed increase when a Darkness Skill is used, but this is only a temporary boost and requires consistent use of Darkness Skills to maintain. However, it's worth noting that Necromancers have other ways to compensate for their lack of mobility. For example, their minions can provide additional damage and act as a shield, allowing the Necromancer to stay back and focus on their spells. They also have abilities that can slow enemies, such as Bone Spear and Grim Scythe, which can help control the battlefield and keep enemies at a distance.

Survivability ★★★★★

The Necromancer has a lot of options to increase its survivability in combat, including summoning undead minions, draining life from enemies, using abilities like Blood Rush and Bone Armor, and equipping items that increase armor or resistances. By using these abilities and items effectively, the Necromancer can become a formidable force in battle and survive even the toughest challenges in Diablo 4.

Clearing Ability ★★★★★

Necromancer has several abilities that can be used for clearing areas of enemies, including offensive abilities like Army of the Dead, Death Nova, and Corpse Explosion, as well as ranged abilities like Bone Spear and the ability to command groups of undead minions with Command Skeletons. Bone Storm is also an incredibly strong AOE along with the staple ability Corpse Explosion making Bone Necro one of the strongest clearing builds in the game. By using these abilities effectively, the Necromancer can become a powerful force for clearing areas of enemies in Diablo 4.

Class-Specific Mechanic ★★★★

The Book of the Dead is the Necromancer's unique class mechanic. Opening your Book reveals specializations for your Skeletal Warriors, Skeletal Mages and Golem. Each of which helps to fill the needs of your build.

Crowd Control Ability ★★★★

The Diablo 4 Necromancer has several crowd control abilities, including Frailty, Bone Prison, and Blood Nova. Frailty curses enemies, reducing their health and making them easier to kill. Bone Prison creates a cage of bone around enemies, immobilizing them. Blood Nova damages and slows enemies around the Necromancer. These crowd control abilities can be used strategically to control the battlefield and give the Necromancer an advantage in combat.

The Druid is a versatile class that offers a lot of options for players who enjoy shapeshifting and nature-based magic.

In Human Form, the Druid has access to a variety of nature-based spells that can clear large groups of enemies.

Class-Specific Mechanic ★★★

Druids can choose Boons from a total of 4 different Animal Spirits. These Boons vary in terms of power but some of them are very strong like masochistic which it causes critical strikes with shape-shifting skills to heal for 3% maximum life. Scythe Talons which increase critical strike chance and Avian Wrath which gives 30% increased critical strike damage, seem like some strong energies. While it's not the most powerful class specific mechanic, it does offer some very nice bonuses.

Crowd Control Ability ★★★★

Druids have multiple sources of knockdowns, knockbacks, immobilizations, stuns and a cool skill called neurotoxin, which causes poisoned enemies to be slowed by 24%, which can be a cool combo with rabies which spreads across monsters or with wine creeper which applies AOE poison and can activate to immobilize in an AOE with strangling vines. Overall, Druid has a large number of options to keep their enemies where they want them.

Clearing Ability ★★★★★

Sorcerers have some of the strongest spells in the game with hydra, incinerate, meteor, inferno, it really just gives them some of the best clearing ability out of all classes.

Class-Specific Mechanic ★★

The Sorcerer in Diablo 4 has a class-specific mechanic called Enchantment. It allows the Sorcerer to apply elemental enchantments to their attacks, which can deal additional damage and apply effects to enemies. The available enchantments are flame, frost, and lightning, and they can be upgraded with various talents for more damage and effects. This mechanic gives the Sorcerer flexibility and adaptability in combat, allowing them to apply the most effective enchantment to their attacks based on the situation and enemy.

Crowd Control Ability ★★★★★

The Sorcerer has a ton of crowd control with every other ability applying a chill and a freeze and most abilities applying a stun or immobilize effect with spells like Frost Nova, Blizzard and so many others, Sorcerers get a 5 out of 5 in terms of crowd control.

Barbarian for D4 Start (A-Tier)

The Barbarian is a powerful and versatile class in Diablo 4, with a focus on close-range combat and high damage output. In the Server Slam build, the Whirlwind build is a popular choice for Barbarians.

Leap allows the Barbarian to quickly jump to a target location, while Furious Charge charges forward, damaging and knocking back enemies in its path. The Barbarian also has a passive skill called Tireless Movement, which grants increased movement speed and reduces the duration of movement-impairing effects. These skills and passives, along with various gear and gems, allow the Barbarian to move quickly around the battlefield and engage enemies at close range.

Survivability★★★★★

Barbarian is one of the tankiest classes in the game with several survivability options, including the use of heavy armor, defensive skills, and passive abilities. The Barbarian's thick hide allows them to take more damage than other classes, and they have access to skills like Ignore Pain, which reduces incoming damage for a short time, and Ground Stomp, which stuns and damages enemies in a wide area around the Barbarian. Additionally, the Barbarian has passive skills like Inspiring Presence, which increases the health regeneration of both the Barbarian and their allies, and Bloodthirst, which heals the Barbarian for a portion of the damage they deal.

Clearing Ability ★★★

The Barbarian has strong AOE options with Upheaval and Iron Maelstrom being some of the strongest abilities the Barbarian has. However, the Barbarian truly shines the most in the end game when they have the proper gear which is really their classes biggest strength over other classes. But we’re going to give them a 3 out of 5 for clearing ability because they are a gear dependent class.

Class Specific Mechanic ★★★★★

The Arsenal system is the best class specific mechanic for Barbarian in Diablo 4, which allows them to equip and cycle through four different weapon sets during combat. Each weapon set has its own set of skills, allowing the Barbarian to quickly switch between different playstyles and adapt to different situations.

And each class has a different level of power depending on the level of the class. For example, Barbarian really starts to shine in the late game where Sorcerer can amaze you right from the start. Bone Necromancer seems like the strongest class so far followed by late game Upheaval Barbarian, Hydra Sorcerer, Shadow Imbued Flurry Rogue and Tornado Druid followed by Pulverized Wearbear, each of these being viable end game builds.
