It is a really good formation to use for players who like quite a methodical style and love to control the game, this sort of formation where we're always having sort of 60-plus percent possession, 90 to 95 pass accuracy, it’s easy to play. Also, if you are someone that struggles with attacking, this is a recommended option.

Defence

- Defensive Style: Balanced. It is not recommended to use any type of press, just play on Balanced, which has a solid base and solid foundation to work. 

- Width: 45. When it comes to width, 45 works very well, you never want to go under 40 or go above 55.

- Depth: 60. For the depth, you can go around 60, do not go lower than 55 but not higher than 70, 60 is kind of a sweet spot for the 4222 formations, it gives you a good balance, so you don't have to keep chopping and changing it all the time.

Offence

- Build-Up Play: Balanced. Coming at offense, leave the Build Up Play on balanced as well, it just works for this formation, a lot of people like fast buildup, but if you play a fast buildup, that's just way too open and way too offensive. And if you're going to play this formation, you do have to move the ball around fast, especially when you're getting into the final third, that kind of really pairs well with the direct passing.

- Chance Creation: Direct Passing. Occasionally you are left a little bit exposed, we got two CDMs in this formation, and sometimes they are a little bit out of position, so you have to be confident in one-on-one defending, as you will be left 1 vs 1 defending from time to time in transitions, you need to be confident in your passing ability to get the most out of this formation. 

- Width: 65. For the offensive width, go around 65, it's not a formation that you need to play narrow or super wide, you don't want everything inside all the time, and you need to have the option to go out wide, if your opponent just knows you're going to pass inside all the time, it becomes very easy to defend and that's why a lot of people struggle and chop and change all the time. 

- Players in Box: 6. Go for six, just kind of forces them to get into the box and it's just that sweet spot.

- Corners: 1. Then having the corners and free kicks on one. 

- Free Kicks: 1.

- GK: Come for Crosses and Sweeper Keeper pretty much standard for all of our goalkeepers.

- CB: when it comes to center backs, you need them on Stay Back While Attacking, if you want to be a little bit more conservative, you can have them on Conservative Interceptions as well,

- LB & RB: for full-backs, with the direct passing, sometimes the midfielders can get dragged a little bit out of position, so you can be a left a little exposed on occasion in transition, so you need the fullbacks on Stay Back While Attacking, you need to have quick fullbacks as well just in case the opponent's got quick wingers, so you just need to have that pace in behind to cover and recover if that situation arises.

- CDM: for defensive midfielders, we do have them on balance attack because we have them on direct passing, so if you weren't using direct passing you could use them on stay back, so they may be a little bit higher at the pitch and a little bit more involved in the play. And we do have them on Cut Passing Lanes, making sure that when they are in the position they're covering the middle of the field.

- CAM: for attacking midfielders, they need to be on Get Into The Box for Cross, making sure they are getting in there because they do need to be not just about scoring goals, but they need to sort of get into the final third so that they're able to link up and assist the strikers, that's one of the things that is really important in this formation.

- ST: one setup is you need your quick striker on Get in Behind and you need your sort of playmaker type striker that's kind of better at passing or dribbling and needs to run False 9.
