New & Updated NBA 2K23 Badges
Several badges have been updated with a few new badges added to the game as well. Some of them might seem similar to the badges that were removed. Here's the complete list of new badges in NAB 2K23
Defensive Badges
Start with the badges defense leader which is good, it's not a bad badge but no one needed a plus four attribute for a whole team, it was never that important.
- Anchor: This one is massive, this is going to change the game, it's so important, a crucial badge for last sign of defense biggs improved ability to block the test shots from the paint. This is going to change the game, there's so many times the centers under the basket and like tries to react and just gets dunked on it's so stupid. This is going to fix that.
- Boxout Beast: It didn't remove box the badge, it helps the rebounder win box battles on both offense and defensive rebounding situations, which is just box.
- Work Horse: The Pat Bev badge boosts your ability to hustle down 50/50 balls and play hard-nosed defense without not getting tired. If this means you can basically get in players faces and lock on to them most of the time that we're down for but this is basically just hustler.
- Glove: This is basically pickpocket but for specific situations, it's named after legendary defender gary payton, helps you strip defenders or players as they gather for shots and poke the ball free from ball handlers. So this is basically ball stripper and pickpocket at the same time essentially.
- Challenger: It improves the fitness of perimeter shot contest, this one is the big one, so it's basically intimidator for perimeter shots, perimeter defense was lacking so hard in 2K and challenger's going to fix that.
Playmaking
- Killer Combos: It's basically just quick chain and tie handles put together, so they remove those two badges.
- Clamp Breaker: It helps ball handlers win more one-on-one bump body confrontations, it's a counter to clamps.
- Vice Grip: It improves ball security immediately after securing a rebound catch or picking up the ball great bound for bigs or badge for bigs, even though we think this badge shouldn't need to exist, we are glad that they have it because there's so many times we'll rebound it and just immediately lose it that it's idiotic, this is going to help that situation. It shouldn't happen in the first place but at least there's a batch to counter it now.
- Mismatch Expert: Instead of it being for shooting, it's for play making and it's just to help break down tall defenders when you're a small guard.
- Removed Badges: Bullet passer, downhill, glue hands and stop & go. stop & go and glue hands are fine to remove, downhill is just going to depend on your speed now and bullet passer is just going to be your passing rating.
Finishing
- Slithery: Makes it easier to gather through traffic, avoiding collisions and strips
- Masher: It increases the ability to finish inside layups over defenders. This is great, so basically there's posterizer and now there's gonna be masher which is basically like the john marant one where you can go and get hit and then still make an acrobatic finish. That's awesome because the layups are part of basketball.
- Aerial Wizard: Abilities to successfully complete alley-oops putback dunks, so instead of doing a loop specialist or putback boss, you can literally just have aerial wizard and it's going to work.
- Bully: Like Giannis and LeBron be able to finish your bulldozing through traffic, this one's going to be kind of broken if you're a big defender or a big player that slashes. This one's gonna be a scary badge, this is gonna be underrated.
- Removed Badges: They removed hook specialist which is interesting because either they just don't want people to do post-op cheese anymore or they're gonna have something else for it.
Shooting
- Agent 3: Ability to hit difficult three-point shots off the dribble, this is basically just circus threes, but now this is also gonna be like the running threes.
- Middy Magician: It's just difficult shots, but now it's called like mini magician.
- Amped: Reduces the shooting attribute penalty for fatigue, so this was good because when we would shoot in 2k and we were running around picks and screens and we ran out of stamina like we could hit the shop, but it was hard to hit it. Now amped is going to help you not deal with that situation.
- Claymore: It increases the spot up shooters ability to knock down cannon shoe jumpers, the longer they remain stationary in a position. So it's not like set shooter where like after you catch it and you stand still and then shoot it gives you a boost, it's going to give you a boost even if you don't have the ball in your hand. So basically corner shooters are going to love this badge, it's going to be a free three every time.
- Comeback Kid: It's just clutch shooter essentially, but when you're behind.
- Hand Down Man Down: It makes it an outside shooter even deadlier if your opponent does not have their hand up, which if you're a good defender it's not really going to matter.
- Space Creator: Formerly known as a playmaking badge and now boosts the ability to hit step back jumpers and hop shots and also cause the finish to stumble more often. This is gonna be broken with agent 3.
- Limitless Range: It is an old favorite returns, making shooters more effective with any shot attempt from deep 3PT range. So basically they removed chef and limitless spot up and they're just adding it into limitless range.
- Removed Badges: Chef, hot zone hunter, lucky #7, mismatch expert, set shooter, sniper, and limitless spot up.
NBA 2K23 Badge Changes - How The New Badge Tiered System Work?
There are 16 badges per attribute category: 8 in tier 1, 4 in tier 2, and 4 in tier 3. Tier 1 badges are the least powerful for your player, but also cost the least amount of the NBA 2K23 badges points and costs increase for each tier.
The basic idea is that you'll have to earn a set amount of badges in lower tiers before you can earn the most prestigious ones in the upper tiers. By making bad recipes more expensive, this modification aimed at incentivizing players to make tough decisions while building their own Core badges, which are four distinct bad slots, one for each attribute category that can be filled with your badges but do not contribute towards your badge points, are part of the new feature that brings better overall balance to the badge game. Once a challenge criterion for a badge has been satisfied, it can be placed in a core badge space.
So there's a lot, it's going to be a tier system you can pick which badge you want, but the higher tier badge, the harder it is to get because it's going to cost more badge points. So we're moving from making badges to bronze to hall of fame, now we're going to do a tier system.
