Season 9 of Diablo 4 introduces Horadric Spellcraft, a new system allowing players to build custom spell combos with catalysts, infusions, arcanas, and jewels. While some elements of the system are still rough around the edges, there are already some standout combinations that offer strong utility, survivability, and damage potential. Here’s a breakdown of how the system works and which combos are performing best right now.
The Horadric Spell system replaces older seasonal power mechanics with a fresh layer of customization. Players pick a catalyst (a core spell), then assign an element via infusion, and modify it using up to three arcanas. These arcana belong to different schools (Power, Control, and Denial), and their effects can synergize with various Horadric jewels, which provide powerful passive bonuses.
You can only equip one Horadric spell at a time, but it can be heavily modified to suit your build. Each component, catalyst, infusion, arcana, levels independently, and you upgrade them using vials obtained from Strong Rooms or other seasonal content.
After the testing from 2.3.0 PTR, we have sorted out the few powerful Horadic Spells combinations you should try now:
Propulsion, when infused with shadow damage and paired with the arcana that grants barrier based on your max life, creates an extremely survivable setup. It’s particularly effective for Necromancer builds, especially those that rely less on minions and more on direct engagement. The cooldown can be reduced via jewels, enabling near-permanent uptime of a powerful barrier.
Disintegrate naturally applies damage over time, and when infused with poison and paired with the arcana that consumes DOTs for burst damage, it becomes a potent DPS tool. This combo trades critical strikes for consistent damage, scaling well with builds that amplify DOT effects.
Cosmic Anomaly passively summons orbiting entities that explode on command. Pairing this with fire infusion and a blink arcana lets you teleport to enemies and explode the anomalies for burst AOE. Builds that benefit from mobility or rely on positioning can find this combo especially valuable.
Astral Pillar taunts enemies and deals AOE damage. With lightning infusion, it gains chaining effects, and pairing it with arcana that adds stun or immobilize provides excellent battlefield control. It’s a solid choice for tankier builds or group play.
Celestial Surge emits a damaging pulse. When fused with cold, it chills enemies, and if you add an arcana that applies vulnerability, this becomes a strong utility spell that can boost overall group damage output. It’s especially helpful in boss fights or elite encounters.
