In Path of Exile 2, you can try multiple farming mechanics across the league, and may get confused about how heavily character rarity affects loot during all these farming mechanics. So today, with this guide, we are trying to tell you how much rarity you need to get the most out of each Magic Find farm, based on the PoE 2 YouTuber Ronarray's testing. This guide compares strategies and results from 0%, 100%, and 200% item rarity farming setups, outlining effective Atlas skill trees, map choices, and farming mechanics to help you find out the optimal MF rarity for efficient loot returns.
Magic Find in PoE 2 focuses primarily on item rarity rather than quantity, especially after changes introduced in Patch 0.2. Compared to previous versions where rarity had a larger impact, current results show more moderate returns. Still, item rarity influences the volume of mid-tier currency like Chaos Orbs and Exalted Orbs. Tests comparing the 0.1 and 0.2 patch reveal that while rarity bonuses were reduced, they still offer increased value when farming specific mechanics. This makes understanding your build’s rarity and the mechanics you run more important than before.
How to Set Up This Magic Find Farm?
Both 0% and 100% rarity farms were tested under nearly identical conditions to ensure fair comparisons. Each test used standard rare maps with modest quantity and rarity mods (around 10–15% quantity and 40% rarity). The farming setup included:
Two towers per map.
Three tablets per tower, featuring monster density, item rarity, and quantity.
Rayclass Besieged Bridge Tablet for consistent monster spawns.
A 100% MF setup can be achieved by equipping a helmet with around 46% increased item rarity, boots with approximately 23%, and a ring with 32%. This setup reaches just over 100% and is achievable without major sacrifices to survivability or damage output.
This setup was chosen to reflect what most players experience during regular farming, maintaining consistency and avoiding extreme modifiers that could skew results.
Maps to Farm
Usually looking for 10-15% quantity and around 40% basic rarity, pick up the standard rare maps rolled with quantity and rarity modifiers. More rares and increased monster density are achieved by boosting these maps using breach mechanics.
Atlas Tree for This 0%-100% MF Farm
The Atlas passive tree focuses on boosting Breach content. Key nodes include:
Breach Nodes: Rising Power, Frantic Invasion, Crumbling Walls, Interdimensional Assault.
Pack Size & Rares: Bonus nodes for additional rare/magic monsters and increased explicit modifiers via Remnants of Corruption.
Precursor Tablet Bonuses: Increased rewards and stability while avoiding unstable energy mechanics for consistent outcomes.
Avoid unstable energy mechanics for consistency.
Tablets
Choose the Rayclass Besieged tablets with Breach modifiers, and make sure each tower contains three tablets, focusing on monster density, item rarity, and increased quantity. Then keep tablet setups identical between runs to ensure fair comparisons.
Atlas Tower Setup
Stick to two towers with similar modifiers in each run to simulate standard farming environments. This method ensures consistency in monster density and loot.
Mechanics to Farm
Breach gives a consistent rare monster density. Tablets and Atlas passives are tuned to support this mechanic. And other mechanics like Ritual or Trials show less benefit from MF rarity.
How to Get 100% Rarity on Items?
To achieve 100% item rarity on your build, try to combine item bases with open suffixes and craft increased rarity. If you don't have these bases (focus on helmet, boots, and at least one ring)with high rarity mods in inventory, the fastest way to collect is using PoE 2 trade sites. With this setup, you can easily hit 100% rarity, but it doesn’t require full gear investment.
Currency Income: 0% vs 100% Rarity
In 30 maps with 0% rarity, the loot included 4 raw Divine Orbs, 229 Exalted Orbs, 43 Chaos Orbs, and a variety of other mid-tier currencies. With 100% rarity, the loot improved to 5 Divine-equivalent drops (including a Perfect Jeweler's Orb), 332 Exalted Orbs, and 66 Chaos Orbs. This represents a 50% increase in both Chaos and Exalted drops, with only a slight rise in Divine-tier drops. Other currencies, such as Simulacrums and Breachstones, remained mostly unaffected.
Is 100% Rarity Worth It?
Absolutely, especially for farming Chaos and Exalted Orbs. While the increase in Divine-tier drops was small, the consistent boost to mid-tier currency makes 100% rarity a strong value point (a practical goal that doesn't require heavy investment). If your build can support it, aiming for 100% is highly recommended.
How to Set Up 200% Magic Find Farm
Reaching 200% is achievable by stacking rarity on all gear slots. In this test, a Ritualist ascendancy provided a bonus, alongside:
Helmet: 46% rarity
Boots: 23% rarity
Two Rings: 32% and 50% rarity
Gloves: Up to 24% rarity
Combined with ascendancy bonuses, this setup achieved 208% rarity.
Atlas Tree for 200% MF Farm
The tree mirrored the 100% setup, with a focus on pack size, rare monster spawns, and Breach-specific enhancements. Nodes included Rising Power, Interdimensional Assault, Frantic Invasion, and Crumbling Walls. The goal was to maintain consistency across all rarity levels.
How to Get 200% Rarity on Gear
Stack rarity on every possible gear piece. Utilize amulets, gloves, and second rings, or ascendancy bonuses like those from Ritualist. It requires more investment but is achievable even without specialized ascendancy.
Currency Income: 0% vs 100% vs 200% Rarity
0% Rarity: 4 Divine Orbs, 229 Exalted, 43 Chaos
100% Rarity: 5 Divine-equivalent drops, 332 Exalted, 66 Chaos
200% Rarity: 5 Divine Orbs + 5 Orbs of Annulment (similar tier), 258 Exalted, 64 Chaos
The biggest improvement from 0% to 100% was in Chaos and Exalted Orbs. From 100% to 200%, the gain was minimal, with one additional Divine-tier drop and more Annulments. Chaos and Exalted remained nearly the same or even slightly lower, suggesting diminishing returns.
Is 200% MF Rarity Worth It?
The results suggest that 200% rarity does not provide a proportionally higher return compared to 100%. While higher rarity may improve Divine-tier orb drops slightly, the difference in mid-tier currency like Chaos and Exalted is negligible. The effort to reach 200% may not justify the rewards unless your build can support it without major trade-offs.
Based on the tests, the most efficient point appears to be between 100% and 130% item rarity. This range offers a noticeable boost in currency drops especially Chaos and Exalted, without requiring extreme investment. While 200% may yield more Divine or Annulment Orbs occasionally, the improvement beyond 100% is small due to diminishing returns.
For most builds, targeting 100% is practical and effective. You can achieve it with just three gear slots. If your build allows, pushing to 120-130% may add minor benefits. However, going much higher is not recommended unless you’re specifically farming Divine-tier orbs and can maintain clear speed and survivability.
